Doll Blankets and Pillow Patterns Knit and Crochet

Lately I've been blogging more about projects of personal interest. As you can tell from today's blog I've been looking for doll blanket projects for now and for future projects. I thought others might enjoy having resources as well.

I recently updated the picture on this blog. When possible I do try to use my own pictures. This was not made from a free pattern, but from an out of print pattern I bought at a used site. The pattern is Sweet Doll Afghans crocheted with "JAMIE" Afghans made for Girlish Dreams produced by Lion Brand. The pattern number is 89602

Craft Deals of the Season

I blogged early in the season about hitting craft sales for deals on craft supplies. While I did well this year. My husband found a stack of plastic canvas books for $.10 a copy and I bought two boxes of yarn. The women at the sale were so surprised to find someone who would buy all the yarn and were not quite sure how to make a deal. Since I am practicing with different types of yarn, stiches, and needles, the smaller balls work well for those projects. Barbie is definitly better off for the yarns that I would not normally have purchased. I was able to provide a young relative with practice yarn, without having to remove yarn from a project I had planned. Most of the boxes were full skeins. These full skeins were invaluable when I realized I thought I had purchased the color I needed for a project only to find I was missing it. I had enough to finish two scarves with more left over. The woman were commenting on the need to go through their closets and clean out their uneeded items for next year's sale.

Just something to consider when you are looking for deals or to donate. There are people always looking for projects and supplies if you are willing to make a deal.

Holiday Projects

I hope everyone has been enjoying the holiday season. I have been delaying my writing while I work on my craft skills and projects. I started this blog as a way to catalog project ideas I was writing about and as a means of sharing projects with family members. Then I really got hooked and have really started working hard on my own interests.

This Christmas I made some Barbie clothes, a few scarfs, dish clothes, and a prayer shawl for family. I'm really enjoying the process. My husband has renewed and interest in Plastic Canvas and is making me a beautiful project book to hold the free project downloads I have been collecting.

There are more holiday free patterns blogs due out in January for Valentines Day and Saint Patricks Day for Knitting, Crochet, and Plastic Canvas. While I did not take the time to take pictures of my Christmas projects, I do hope to take and post pictures of my own work next year. I also will continue to post patterns I find as find them.

Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year.

Barbie Ski Outfit in Crochet Today

I actually went out to buy the holiday issue of Crochet Today after having determined I had all my holiday gifts purchased. I was surprised to find the Christmas one had been removed and replaced with the January/February issue. I will have to head off to the library to see if I can find the patterns I was looking at, but delaying purchasing until I had paid the holiday bills.

However, I was pleasantly surprised to find a remake of a vintage Clarks and Coats patterns in the January/February issue. The old pattern included sewing, knitting, and crochet patterns that were cute for the time period. This current version would help Barbie fit in with the more modern ski and snowboard crowd on the slopes. The pattern has the hat, sweater, and pants set for Barbie.

For those who don't want to purchase another magazine, I suggest checking out your local library. I have been amazed at the variety of magazines our library has available for patrons.

Christmas Craft Sale Deals

Holiday craft sales are starting earlier than ever this year. For those that sell crafts this is probably obvious.

However, some of these sales can be great times to get materials as well as learn new ideas for your own crafting. I have found the Senior Center sales in this area to be the best resource for finding craft books, kits, and other craft supplies. Many have a resale table for materials. While other sales tend to have knick knacks, toys, and Christmas ornaments on these tables, I have had amazing luck at the Senior Centers in finding craft materials. Many people begin to down size and donate the materials to their Senior Center for sale. The prices are often quite good. Even more importantly you can often find vintage pattern books no longer available.

Happy hunting.

Knit and Crochet Food

Fake food has long been a favorite toy among the younger generations in our family. I remember hunting through dollar stores trying to find a variety of the plastic foods for family members to have for pretend play. I am pleased to realize that there are patterns for crochet and knitting that will provide alternatives.

Loom Knitting Free Patterns and Instructions

My Aunt and my Mom have both developed an interest in loom knitting. I am hoping to pick up the basics soon. As I was researching the topic I added patterns to the previous holiday articles and the ones to be released. Do check them out if you are looking for ideas. Mom was thrilled about the loom snowman. I am hoping this means I will get to see a finished product.
