16 Inch Baby Doll Sunny Days

I have a date now for the donation drop off. The dolls will be headed out at the beginninng of December so I'm finishing up what I can before the date and anything that doesn't make the cut will go towards next year's donation.

This is another of Darski's free patterns Sunny Days found here. The shoes are taken from her Peachy Keen set found here.

I did add some rows to the dress this year as it seemed short using the combination of Red Heart Super Saver Yarn, Bright Yellow and White with the suggested hook. I also added an additional finish row on the button hole side as the back was just a little tight. I think when I make this again I'd think about a larger hook for the top and a smaller than suggested hook for the skirt as it gets a bit wide. I'd rather add rows for length than have it get too wide. I also added trim to the arms. I just liked the look.

I posted Friday that I'm still looking for deals before purchasing next year's Barbie dolls, a 14 inch Lots to Love Baby Doll, and the JC Toys - 16-inch Baby Dolls. I did find a good deal for the 18 inch Our Generation dolls for the 2022 donation so those are off my list. I'm pleased to have done this well this early.

16 Inch Doll Dress, Shoes, and Hat

I mentioned last week that I'd be reversing colors and making another dress for the second JC Toys 16-inch Baby Doll using up the donated Herrschner's Worsted Weight Yarn. I finally finished a skein of the green but have at least 2 more skeins to finish.

You can find the free pattern for the dress here. To adapt the 14 inch doll pattern to the larger 16 inch doll I used a J hook with the lighter Herrschners worsted yarn for the upper section of the dress. I joined the rows after the first row rather than needing to close it with buttons or snaps. I switched to a g hook for the skirt.

With my experience of making the hat with a G hook the last time I switched up and made it with an H hook this time and I think I'd stick with the G hook next time.

I had to adjust the Peachy Keen free shoe pattern found here to a J hook in order to make them fit with the lighter yarn.

Pinky Keen

I had 2 partial skeins of Red Heart Super Saver Pretty n Pink Yarn left over from making the Lil Cutesies Doll Moses Basket and the Peachy Keen outfit for the JC Toys 16-inch Baby Doll seemed a great way to start using it up. You can find the free Peachy Keen pattern here.

I finished one skein off and started on the second but I'll need another doll project to finish off the skein. I'm trying not to leave behind yarn but target it for projects to decrease my overall yarn supply.

The dress was made with a size 7 hook. The jacket and shoes with an I hook. I started the jacket with the 7 hook but found it was too tight over the dress.

16 Inch Baby Doll Dress for Fall

As the November deadline looms ever closer for the doll donation, I'm trying to make sure I have a good selection of outfits for all the dolls. Since I donate two of the JC Toys - La Baby 16-inch Baby Dolls it generally means I need to make duplicates of everything I donate or have at least an equal number of outfits per doll to make the donations similar.

While I often use the same patterns for both dolls I do like to change up the colors and this fall set was a fun take on Darski's free Dora pattern a Dress for February found here.

To get the dress to fit the 16 inch baby doll I use a K hook and worsted weight yarn for the top of the dress and an I hook for the skirt. The shoes are made with another of Darski's free pattern sets that I hope to be making for the second 16 inch doll soon Peachy Keen found here.

I completed the outfit for the first doll back in February and it is time to finish the second. The shoes are the ones that seem to fit this baby doll the best so I'm constantly going back to this pattern to add it to other doll outfits as I know they will stay on the doll's feet.

I don't have a pattern for the hat it was just something I played with as I sat watching TV. I hope to get one more of these done in different colors for the other 16 inch doll prior to the deadline. It works up quick and makes for a nice addition to the wardrobe.

16 Inch Baby Doll Sweater and Skirt

I mentioned when I wrote the post about the Rag doll outfit this week that I had an abandoned skirt I hoped to convert into an outfit for the JC Toys - 16-inch Soft Body Baby Doll with the assistance of additional doll patterns. I did that this week using Darski's free B and B 16 inch doll set you can find here. I lengthened the skirt but the original pattern is from Annie's soft sculpture doll Debbie Ann's Sweater Set 87F43. This pattern is currently out of print but has been available previously on Annie's as a digital patterns so it could appear again.

I didn't do justice to the sweater and it came out more as a wrap cardigan I have another pattern for than the cute baby sweater Darski created but for the moment it will do to add another outfit to the donation pile. I love the shoes from this pattern. They work up quickly and the fit perfectly.

16 Inch Coral Baby Doll Sundress

While I have enough 18 inch doll patterns to rotate patterns in and out each year I don't have the same luxury with the JC Toys 16-inch Baby Dolls since I donate 2 and I have limited pattern choices even though I've adapted many doll patterns not specifically designed for this doll. As a result I generally have to repeat patterns to get enough outfits for each doll. In generally try to change colors to keep the process more interesting.

I periodically buy Joann's Big Twist yarn when it is on sale and I have a shipping coupon. These days most of my yarn comes by mail so shipping offers are always important. As I went looking for yarn for the dress I discovered the coral Big Twist and I'm quite pleased with the outcome.

Both patterns used in this outfit are free patterns. You can find the dress through the Wayback machine here. The shoes are part of the Peachy Keen set and you can find that pattern here.

Notes:

I use a K hook with the dress, an I hook for the shoes and an H hook for the hat

Baby Doll Diaper Bags

While I love adding items to the donation that increase creative play I like making some items more than others. I've admitted over the years there are some I'm just not very good at and one of these is the baby doll diaper bags.

I've included these over the years because they offer the play value and they offer an additional value of storage for all the doll items we make and donate. These bags can help keep all the clothes and accessories stored where storage can sometimes be an issue for families.

This year my very sweet big sister came to my rescue and sewed these beautiful bags. I have the three I need for the larger baby dolls and I have one to start next year's donation. I cannot thank her enough for taking on this task. I've already got some of the items to put in the bags and will be continuing to work on making the rest of the items needed before they head out in November.

16 Inch Baby Doll Sundress

This is always one of the first doll patterns I turn to every year because it is simple and adds a finished doll outfit to the donation bags quickly. The pattern is still available through the Wayback machine here but that can change at any time so if you want the pattern I suggest you download it right away.

In order to get this pattern to fit the JC Toys 16-inch Baby Doll I use a K hook and worsted weight yarn. I join after the first row to avoid having to sew the dress together at the end. The trim on the hat and the bottom of the dress are added. I use a sc chain 3. I used an H hook for the hat and added a few rounds to the brim to make it fit.

Last year I started adding shoes from the free Peachy Keen pattern and I decided it was time this outfit got shoes, too. The free pattern is a complete set I hope to make later but I constantly add the shoes to other patterns as it is one of the few shoe patterns I can find that fits this doll's feet. You can find the pattern here.
