My Life Harriet

It feels odd to be preposting in May in the middle of April but I'm glad I have enough projects finished to be ahead instead of behind. Life can get busy and it is easy to stop posting and focus on what needs to be done outside of my preparations for donations.

This was made using the free Harriet pattern from Darski's Harriet set found here.

The shoes are from Sweet Silver Creations School Uniform Pattern that can be purchased here.

Notes:

This was made with Red Heart Super Saver Heather Grey and left over Big Twist unspecified grey. I haven't bought any Big Twist since Joann closed but I have been trying to find ways to use up the stock pile I purchased prior to them closing. The scarf is made with Walmart's Mainstay's Pink Blend. I use this particular Mainstay yarn for a couple of projects because I like the color blend.

Skirt:

The skirt was made with the Red Heart Heather gray. I crochet over a pony tail elastic with an H hook and complete the pattern as written. The increases are made in the back not the sides as with the Dovetailed pattern.

Sweater:

I use an I hook for the sweater. For some reason I had to play with the collar a few times as it wasn't sitting correctly.

Scarf:

I chain 100 and then mark the end stitches as the pattern is different for these and extend the count for the middle stitches to account for the longer chain. I used an I hook for the scarf.

Shoes:

I've discovered I need an E hook to get these shoes to fit.

My Life Claret

Notes:

My local Walmart did finally have Red Heart Claret so I decided to try it out. This feels more maroon than claret but each year I do try to get there.

This is a really quick and easy formal gown for the 18 inch dolls.

I use an I hook for the dress and follow the directions as written other than I added a few extra rows to get the length I wanted for the gown this year.

I've been experimenting with the trim that Darski calls the Flimmery bits. I've tried soley on the top as she suggests but I prefer front armpit to back armpit.

The shoes are from Sweet Silver Creations School Uniform that can be purchased here. I moved to an e hook for the pattern and they fit mcuh better.

The back gives directions for button formation as you are creating the dress and I almost started additional button holes after finishing the dress as this is something almost every dress does after completion. I rather liked this method as it was neat and clean.

Working on the Harriet pattern from this set for my next outfit.

My Life Harriet

Notes:

I tried to document hook size this time but I have more limited notes on the yarn.

I have no idea which brand I used for the darker grey. The lighter grey is from my last shipment of JoAnn's Big Twist Yarn. While I always found their worsted 4 to be a bit lighter it had one of the widest selection of colors available. I will miss their yarn.

Hat:

I used a J hook and followed the directions as written.

Skirt:

I used a hairband for the skirt elastic.

An H hook worked for the skirt when using elastic.

Sweater:

I used an I hook for the sweater.

Reminder there is an extra row added to the bottom when you finish the back and sides so consider that before adding more rows for length. I had to work around this as I had added additional rows for length and didn't have room for another row when I was finishing the edges.

I added a row around the collar as it seemed a bit tight.

The sleeves are finished with ss.

Scarf:

I changed the count to 100 as I find it to short otherwise. I finally noted this on the pattern after making the first attempt too short.

This is made with left over Mainstays Pink Blend that I used for the baby doll's Valentine outfits.

The shoes are made from Sweet Silver Creations Sailor Pattern that has been my got to shoe pattern for years. I'm not sure if it has been working with so much thread recently but I've gone from making these shoes with an I hook to a G hook for this pair as they've been a bit large. My Life Claret

This is clearly not Claret but Big Twist Purple. Where practical this year I'm continuing my quest to use stash yarn for projects where possible. I still need to buy certain weights and colors of yarns when I run out but where possible I'm trying to substitute with yarns on hand. A note to myself I think this pattern would also work up well in shades of green. I don't always include this dress in my donation projects but it is one that I should use more often.

I used an I hook for this dress I finished the back with a row of hdc before adding button row as I've found the Big Twist to be a slightly lighter yarn and in this case the dress even with the I hook was a little tight in the back for buttons. With the additional hdc it fit fine and allowed the buttons to be used.

I'm currently working on the Harriet outfit from this pattern for the other My Life doll.

My Life Claret Dress

I've been making a point of attacking orphan skeins of yarn in my stash. While looking for yarn to complete this project I came across a single skein of Lion Brand Wool Ease in Cranberry. I don't generally buy Wool Ease so this could have been left over from a specific project or it could be from one of my senior center/Church sale yarn pick ups that I've been working off over the last few years. It was close but one skein was enough to finish the dress. I used a skein of I Love This Yarn to make the shoes.

I've pretty much narrowed down my shoe patterns for patterns that don't include shoes to two from patterns I purchased from Sweet Silver Creations just because I can almost make them in my sleep now. This pattern is from her School Girl Uniform pattern and can be purchased here.

This was the last item I made for the donation last year and I'm getting it done a bit earlier this year. I had to use a larger hook on the top and I suspect that is a combination of my guage and using different yarn. I returned to the suggested hook once I joined the outfit.
