Crafting is fun for all ages and interests. This blog evolved from researching resources for friends and articles I write as a freelance writer. It is a place to share the information I discovered. Please feel free to leave comments and questions. I am always looking at new projects ideas for family and friends in areas of my own abilities and theirs. Colonial Hello Kitty
Armina Ami-Nals' Hello Kitty patterns have been a great help and inspiration for creating my own Hello Kitty's. Her witch pattern is still my basic body pattern, but I have expanded my dress making techniques to include my experience with doll clothes. For those of you interested in patterns, you can find links to her free patterns and others on the Hello Kitty page.
The cap was developed using the free Betsy Ross Barbie crochet pattern. I followed the patterns suggested increases until it was big enough for the Kitty's head.

Hello Kitty Valentine Crochet
I have been working on a Valentine's Ball Theme for my Valentine's packages. Hello Kitty's outfit is a combination of several outfits. The dress is based on the American Girl Colonial dress I posted about earlier. Her cloak is adapted from Barbie's Valentine Cloak pattern. Her hat was complete fabrication. I started with a headband and kept playing with the stitches until I had a hat.
The length of the body has become an issue when designing outfits that are more interesting. I have been thinking about making a longer body to accommodate more detailed outfits. It should not be too challenging and would allow for more creative exploration.
Armina Ami-Nals' Hello Kitty patterns have been a great help and inspiration for creating my own Hello Kitty's. I still use her witch pattern as my basic body pattern, but I have expanded my dress making techniques to include my experience with doll clothes. For those of you interested in patterns, you can find links to her free patterns and others on the Hello Kitty page.
I am still making lots of doll clothes. I have Barbie dress that will be posted this week and a Skipper dress that needs to be photographed. I have to do some pattern cleaning because I was looking for an American Girl doll pattern to meet my charity goal and I seem to have misplaced the pattern. I have been moving stuff around so I know it will turn up. I just had hoped to get that finished yesterday.

Hello Kitty Christmas Caroler
I have been experimenting with Armina Ami-Nals Hello Kitty patterns for a while now. You can find links to her free patterns and others on the Hello Kitty page. Her witch dress pattern has provided endless opportunities to learn and adapt. In combination with Barbie patterns, my selection for Hello Kitty presents has grown remarkably. Eventually I hope to record what I am doing so I can recreate these for myself as well as sharing with others. However, I am going through a very experimental stage in trying to combine how one makes arms for doll's clothes with adding arms to Hello Kitty. I am also using different doll techniques on her outfits. Therefore, each try is not a pattern to be shared by a more of a crochet lab experiment. I hope at some point to be able to find a set pattern to create and be able to share as so many people have generously done to help me get started.
Christmas caroling has always been special to me. In high school, we had two traditions. A friend had a caroling party at her house each year where we did actually go out and entertain the neighbors getting hot cider and cocoa for our efforts. Our high school had a chorus tradition on the last day prior to school ending we would gather in the music room during last period and carol through the halls disrupting classrooms and gathering followers as we went. It was a great tradition, long gone.
My husband's family always sang Christmas carols when we gathered during the Christmas season. We incorporated that tradition into our Christmas Eve celebration. My husband would play his keyboard until we inherited his parent's piano when they moved. Two of my nieces have "helped" their Uncle with the tradition of playing while the family sings. Many visitors have been surprised to find multiple party harmonies visiting our home on Christmas Eve.
This Kitty is headed off to one of the little girls who no longer lives close enough to sit and play the piano with her Uncle. Hopefully the Kitty and the dolls which I will post later will remind her of the special tradition she shared with us.

Hello Kitty Witch
The Patriotic Hello Kitty was a big hit so I decided to move on and try Armina Ami-Nal's Hello Kitty Witch pattern to add to my Halloween package. Not having to change colors for the stripes was a plus.
The challenge for this Kitty was adding the dress to the body. I want to go back and read the tutorial for adding clothing to the body. I am sure I missed something when I read it the first time.
For those interested in the free pattern, you can find a link to it on the Hello Kitty Free Pattern Page. The cape is actually Dracula's cape from Gourmet Crochet's Monster Mash Amigurumi.

Hello Kitty Patriotic
I was looking for some Patriotic patterns to make some toys to send off for the July 4th holiday and remembered Armina Ami-Nal’s free Hello Kitty Patterns that have multiple themes including holidays. Since one of the children is a huge Hello Kitty fan, this seemed like a good choice. For those looking for this pattern the link can be found on the Hello Kitty Page under Armina Ami-Nal.
This was the first Ami I have made that required changing colors in stripes. I have changed colors for different body parts, but changing colors as this pattern called for was more challenging. I need to work on that skill. I have since read a few a few suggestions for improving the method for handling the color change.
Since I expect Hello Kitty will be traveling over the summer I decided to include a bag for the summer trips. I have been experimenting with granny squares and decided to crochet two together using half double crochets for a different effect. Then I created a handle using half double crochets in red white and blue to keep the color scheme going.

Hello Kitty
I came across this pattern at Naida's Crochet. The free pattern link can be found in the Toy Links under Other Toys.
I don't know if any of you have huge Hello Kitty fans in your family, but I do. While I have purchased items I have not had many options to make any items. It was wonderful to see a pattern that resembled the beloved character that I could actually make. It had the benefit of still looking like the character when I was finished. The pattern directions were easy to follow and clear. I did use plastic eyes and added fabric to back them so they would not poke through the back of the purse. This is different from the original pattern.
I sent this off in the Easter items and have not yet heard back about the reaction. However, there were times I was not sure it would make it to the box, so I do have high hopes it will be a pleaser.
For those of you looking for Hello Kitty free Ami patterns I recently came across a blog that has free patterns of Hello Kitty in a variety of costumes. Armina's Ami-Nals has some patterns I want to try out for my Hello Kitty fans. Check them out for yourself.
