Princess Finger Puppet

Things got a bit busy and as I was reviewing my final posts for Kits for Kids I realized I was short a finger puppet. The princess had been left off. As I'm preposting shuffling posts is not a huge challenge so she has been added back into the post schedule.

Why make such a fuss. Well I do go back to these posts for future projects to figure out what I did and what never to do again.

This was made using a free pattern set that includes a castle, knight, dragaon, and princess finger puppets found here.

Notes:

I used a g hook for the body of the puppet.

The yarn is primarily left overs from other projects with the exception of the hair which I used Herrschner's sport weight. The hair is too heavy with traditional worsted 4. I sewed the crown to the puppet's wig before sewing wig to the puppet's head. This was much easier to manage. As with the Knight I sewed in ends as I went as it is hard to reach the ends once finished and these puppets do not easily flip inside out for sewing.

I mentioned with the knight that I would choose colored yarn for the eyes but it would need to be a dark blue not light. I looked at a previous picture of a princess I'd made with light blue and it was not good. I'd actually prefer the black.

I had to add a row to both hands to get them to close.

Warrior Princess Finger Puppet

The princess and the dragon were really what drew me to this set. They were different from what I had seen in castle finger type puppets and I really wanted to make sure they made the journey with the castle tote.

Like the knight this puppet is primarily made with Omega Sinfonia cotton sport yarn. As I mentioned with the knight for some of the smaller details there are other brands of cotton sport yarn scraps I used to make details on the face, the hair, etc.

The pony tail was a creative addition to the hair and I had fun seeing how that came together. I liked the skirt addition to her armour but found getting it centered in the front was slightly more challenging than I thought it would be when I began as I'd done this before with some of the 18 inch doll princess dresses.

Her sword is felt and also sewn rather than glued on for the reasons I discussed regarding the knight finger puppet.

Now I need to finish the dragon and I can decide what other finger puppets will be living in the castle.

Fairy Tale Finger Puppet Set

Thankfully you can finally see the new dragon face in this group shot. The finger puppets can be challenging to get good photographs of when they are not taken in use.

I really like this set and hope they enjoy many hours of story telling. I am planning on adding additional friends and maybe working on the Crochet World castle as part of my Easter package. We will have to see where my crocheting and writing take me before spring comes. It is odd to be discussing Easter when most people have not begun to think of Christmas, but when you are making stuff, you have to plan ahead to have it finished.

Princess Finger Puppet Pink Dress

As I mentioned in previous posts I have been working on a fairy tale finger puppet theme using different free patterns I have found over the last year. This princess is part of the Crochetme set for those that are interested in finding the pattern. Click on the words and it will take you to the free pattern you can download.




While I liked the hair design on the previous princess, the neck and other parts of this princess were easier to work on and complete. She has more of the fairy tale look and less of the ordinary princess look of the first one I posted.

Princess Finger Puppet Yellow Dress

This was the second pattern from Crochet World's April 2010 bonus patterns. I liked certain parts of this pattern better than the other princess I will be discussing, but the neck did not work well which was frustrating. I thought the hair was an improvement over the first princess I made and I think I may use it for future doll puppets royal and common. However, the neckline made this puppet VERY challenging to get her to look right.

I have not given up on the pattern. I still like this princess as she is not the stereotypical fairy princess, but more an ordinary girl with royal lines. I have learned a few things from the process and can see where adjustments can be made.
