Crafting is fun for all ages and interests. This blog evolved from researching resources for friends and articles I write as a freelance writer. It is a place to share the information I discovered. Please feel free to leave comments and questions. I am always looking at new projects ideas for family and friends in areas of my own abilities and theirs. Crochet Box of Chocolates
I alternated making chocolates with making crochet cookies and other projects. As I mentioned in the cookie project I did debate making the actual "box" of chocolates and decided against it. I wanted to make play food for Valentine's Day for little ones but the effort to make the box versus the time it would last didn't seem like a good use of my time. As I mentioned in the cookie post I found heart boxes at Hobby Lobby. You can find this box online here.
I didn't follow one pattern for the chocolates. In some cases I followed a pattern to completion. Others inspired me to create my own based on established designs. For my own records in case I decide to do this again and for those of you interested in making your own crocheted chocolates I'm going to do my best to document just what I did.
The round pink and yellow ones with the dark centers were called Licorice Allsorts. The Chocolate with a swirl is a Chocolate Bon Bon according to the designer. These are part of a free pattern found in a blog post labeled Crochet Candy found here.
For those of you interested in a free box pattern with chocolates Red Heart has a free pattern here. This pattern uses Luster Sheen which has been discontinued. Fortunately for me I had some brown I wanted to use up but for this project. There are other yarns which could substitute and work for making the box if you don't have Luster Sheen in your stash. From this pattern set I made the chocolate covered pretzel and I adapted the white chocolate striped chocolate. I alternated between Luster Sheen and Red Heart Sport yarn which I also believe has been discontinued. I'm determined to work my way through this old stash.
The last pattern set I used was an out of print Annie's Attic pattern Crochet Sweet Dreams 55X. This pattern also has a box with no cover I didn't follow any of these patterns for chocolates directly but I did use the pictures for ideas to finish off my box of chocolates. I made some circles and oval chocolates after looking at these patterns. If you are interested in play food and come across this set it is worth picking up as it has a variety of other play food patterns. If Annie publishes this as a digital pattern I will try to update this post.

Hugging Hearts
Hugging Hearts is the second project from Crochet Village's My Silly Valentine Patterns I finished. As I mentioned in the Crochet Chocolate Kiss post, I purchased this set shortly after Christmas to have some new items to make for the Valentine's box I am sending out. This couple was a perfect match.
The heart pair worked up quickly using scraps of Caron One Pounder and Red Heart Super Saver yarn. These would be cute for a bridal shower, too.
My last task before the box is ready is to make the crochet cookies from the pattern.

Chocolate Valentine Kiss
I have been off working on swap and Valentine's projects so I have not had much time to post. I finished my swap projects. However, I cannot post pictures until my partner receives the box. Therefore, I will post my Valentine's projects as I finish them.
This is the Chocolate Kiss from Crochet Village's My Silly Valentine Patterns. I purchased the patterns shortly after Christmas when I saw they had released a special holiday pattern and decided I would get the set ready for my Valentine's package. Just to be clear I changed the color pattern as I wanted a holiday themed Kiss. The pattern has the traditional grey colors. I also decided on the striped legs, the pattern is a solid color. That is one of the great things about these patterns is you can easily adapt them to your needs without a great deal of effort. They are also a good use of scraps. I used up left over Caron One Pounder and Red Heart Super Saver to make this project. I have a request for a blue one and two things I need to work on for the second one are adding more stuffing and working on where to best attach the legs.
I almost have the second pattern, the Hugging Hearts completed. I will post those pictures when they are ready for their public appearance.

Valentine Bear
My Valentine Bear is actually adapted from the Birthday Bear in Jan Hatfield's Crochet Pairs of Bears pattern number 1182. The American School of Needlework published the leaflet in 1993.
As I mentioned yesterday, I have been working on this bear as part of the Valentine's package to mail Friday, unless the snow does not stop. I have given myself until then to finish the package. The mouse finger puppet is almost complete and I think I will call and end to the making Valentine items to ship. I still have a local package to finish.
My husband says this is his favorite of all the ami's I have made yet. I will have to make him a dressed bear for his office. I love the bear pattern. The clothes were a bit more challenging. While we often discuss gauge in crochet, we rarely discuss stuffing. After working on the clothing patterns, I must guess that my bear is better stuffed than Ms. Hatfield's bears. While the pants fit, the shirt was not even close to fitting. I tried three different methods for making a bear shirt before reaching success with the fourth. The bow tie is based on the pattern, but I added a chain so it would be removable. The belt and shirt use snaps. The pattern called for buttons for the shirt. After playing with the pattern and being rushed for time, snaps were a quicker alternative.
The leaflet includes a St. Patrick's Day couple. They would make a great addition to my next package. I am not done with this pattern yet.
