Sunshine Sundress for 12 Inch Baby Doll
This project helped me reach a couple of my goals for this year increasing the number of outfits for the 12" Baby Doll and to use up yarn on hand. I had ordered more Red Heart soft yarn than I needed for another project, so using up a partial skein for this outfit seemed like a good choice. If you don't recognize the pattern, this is the same sundress pattern that I used for the 15" doll dress I made in pink. You can find that pattern here. The Red Heart soft was a lighter yarn and I used a smaller hook. In order to finish off the skein I made a small basket to go with the outfit.
I'm on my way to having a decent number of outfits for the smallest of the donation dolls this year. Being willing to experiment with using the larger doll patterns with lighter yarns and smaller hooks seems to have helped with the job.

Watermelon 12" Baby Doll Dress
One of the things I've enjoyed this year is trying to adapt patterns, yarns and hooks to get one pattern to fit both baby doll sizes. This is an adaptation of a free 14" baby doll pattern found here. The yarn was a lighter weight kind of coarser yarn I inherited when a friend passed away. I had used up most of the yarn on another project but thought I'd have enough to finish the outfit for Melissa & Doug 12 Inch Baby Doll. I underestimated the amount of yarn I needed, but got to thinking about color combos I'd seen for a child's dress and decided to experiment with some Red Heart Lime colored yarn. It worked, creating my Watermelon Outfit.
This encourages me because in years gone by, I've stuck to experimenting with outfits for the 15" doll, but been far more hesitant to play with stuff for the smaller doll, meaning that she always goes off with a smaller bag of clothing for the donation. This will be the largest donation that goes off with her to date.
It has also been great to use up more of the donated yarn in my friend's memory. I need the room and it makes me feel good to know her legacy is one that will make little ones happy.

Baby Jenna Summer Outfit
Melissa & Doug Jenna - 12" Doll
Recently I came across a free pattern on Ravelry for Baby Sasha and was curious to see if it could be adapted. You can find the pattern here. One of the big challenges in working with baby dolls is the sizes vary greatly. Baby dolls come in all lengths and widths. A 12" baby doll may not be equal to another 12" doll but it is a starting point. In this case I'd never heard of the Sasha line. After a little online research I discovered Sasha is generally considered more of collector's doll than a play doll, but the length was comparable. I had no idea about the other dimensions.
I had to increase the hook size and add a finishing edge, but other than that, the outfit cute and I thought it was rather cute. This was a great chance to work on using up my stash as this was made from Pound of Love baby yarn that has been in my stash for a bit.

Doll Basket for 12 Inch Baby Doll
Last year I started out to make a doll basket for the 12" doll using the pattern from Dressing Up Dolly, Leisure Arts 2725. It ended up being used for the 15" doll and I never got back to making one for the 12" doll. This year I decided to play with the pattern and see if I could make one for the Melissa & Doug Jenna - 12" Doll
The blanket pattern came from the 2015 Crochet Calendar. I used it for all the doll blankets this year. The pillow was just something I played with to give the doll a better fit in the basket.

Baby Jenna Hat, Pants, Booties, and Sweater
This is my first outfit of the 2015 donation year for the Melissa & Doug Jenna - 12" Baby Doll
I find this doll the most challenging to get the patterns to fit. While there are lots of retired patterns out there for 12" baby dolls, they seem to have slightly different dimensions. I started out working with TD Creations Erin pattern 7106. That is the best booties pattern I've found and will be coming back to that one later. The pants were a little short between the crotch and the waist, but otherwise fitted well. I had to improvise the shirt using another pattern.
The hat was actually the test hat I made using the mini slouchy hat pattern found here. When made to directions I got a 12" doll hat not an 18" doll hat. It worked for me since I often trade out items if they fit another doll.
I think it is a good start to getting her some clothes for next year's donation. I found to my shame she had far fewer items than the other dolls as I packed up this year. So, I'm going to have to work harder to find items that work.

Little Red Riding Hood Baby Doll
I love fairy tales and making themed outfits is always fun. I made this outfit for the Melissa & Doug Jenna - 12" Doll
Something else I enjoy is collecting old crochet patterns and while they can take some work to adapt, they are also can create some fun outfits for dolls. The dress for this outfit came from an old Mary Maxim pattern 189V, which is available for purchase here. I am thrilled Mary Maxim is releasing more of their old patterns for download. I've picked up several doll and other patterns and have had fun working on them.
The cape comes from a black and white 1981 publication from House of White Birches, Baby Doll Fashions to Crochet by Margaret Funk. I found this on one of my many vintage pattern hunts and I have had a great deal of fun exploring the patterns. One thing I will note is the sizes are a bit challenging. For instance they might tell you it is for a 13" doll, but what kind of 13" doll? There are no additional measurements. That being said I've been able to adjust most of the patterns to fit by changing yarn and hook sizes. The 18" patterns have fit pretty well for the padded 15" baby doll when I used worsted instead of sport yarn and increased the hook size.

Baby Doll Blanket for 12 Inch Doll
A funny thing happened while working on an 18-inch doll project, it turned into a doll blanket for a 12 inch doll. I had a doll dress pattern that used the Chevron stitch and even when I increased the hook size and frogged it several times to check the pattern, I just wasn't getting it to fit the doll. However, I noticed it did look like it would make a nice blanket if it was just larger.
Then I realized while it wouldn't work for the 15 or 18-inch doll it was a good size for the 12 Jenna doll. So my time and effort was saved.

Baby Doll Crochet Hooded Towel
Of course after taking a bath Baby Jenna Doll
This project is turning into a great stash busting project. I have been digging into my stash and able to use up some partial skeins that were left over from previous projects. This set has not required any additional yarn purchases.

Baby Doll Pajamas
I started out making the PJ's from Maggie Crochet's baby bath doll pattern set available here for the Baby Jenna Doll.
As for the pants, I have never been great with patterns that require you to crochet two pieces and sew them together. I have two issues. First, the two pieces have to be the same. They were close as I worked on this. The second issue I have is the problem I always had with sewing; attach part A to part D. Somehow, my part A and D never seemed to make a good match. This was no different, so I decided to go with a basic in the round pant design for the PJ bottoms. Simple, but it worked and the pants are easy to get on and off.
My favorite part of this pattern was the shoes. They worked up quickly and fit perfectly. I rarely have that kind of luck when making doll shoes and do to the size and shape of the doll feet I did not have high expectations.

Baby Doll Bath Set
I decided to add baby dolls to my donation this year. The timing worked out that I was able to pick up two Melissa & Doug Jenna - 12" Dolls
One of the exciting discoveries for me is that I can crochet with thread using Susan Bates Bamboo Steelite Size 7
