American Girl Ribbed Navy Sweater

This was the last of the three sweaters from the the out of print Springfield Collection Sweater Trio FCM494. I didn't have any navy yarn on hand when I started this project, but I wanted to be able to search for this sweater. I realized when I want to look for information on working on these sweaters in the past I lumped them all in as sweaters and it isn't as helpful as it could be to read up on my notes.

As with the other sweaters in this pattern I made this year I reduced the hook size from F to E. I also made the headband which I don't think I did the last time I made this sweater. I will be making them with the two sweaters that don't have hoods in the future. It's a nice finishing touch.

As with the previous two patterns I used the Maggie's Crochet Abby, Allie, and Annie PA972 - 01 for the pants. Depending on how these get distributed the pants will mix well with other outfits.

American Girl Cable Loop Sweater and Pants

The weather turned colder and I just felt the urge to start making some doll sweaters. I find as it gets warmer I just don't have the same interest. I've decided to see how many sweaters I can make before I lose interest. My first project was to complete the out of print Springfield Collection Sweater Trio FCM494. This pattern is commonly available on used pattern sites if you are available. This pattern creates a faux cable look and it has been one of my favorites for years because it works up quickly, but it has a look of being a little more complicated than it really is to make. The headband for this pattern uses the same method for faux cables.

For pants I went back to my favorite pants pattern from Maggie's Crochet Abby, Allie, and Annie PA972 - 01 I had momentary panic when I went to find the pants pattern and it hadn't found its way home to the 18 inch doll binder. I really didn't want to have to replace the pattern.

Now for my notes, in the past I've found these sweaters a little bulky. This year I tried experimenting by going down from a f hook to an e and I found the sweaters seemed to fit a little better.

18 Inch Doll Cape, Skirt, and Sweater

One of the example pictures for this pattern shows the cape made in pink camo yarn. I picked up some worsted camo to make a scrubbie and it seemed like a great idea to try out the cape pattern in the camo. I had just enough left over to make the skirt. I would like to have made the skirt a bit longer but the store only had one skein of pink camo and with the Blizzard of 2015 raging it seemed like a good idea to finish the project while I was motivated and move on to something new. It is all to easy to have unfinished projects that never seem to linger on with hopes that I'll get back to them.

The skirt is adapted from Maggie's Crochet Crochet Pattern Abby, Allie & Annie PA972-R pants pattern. The cape pattern can be purchased here. I made the sweater using an out of print Springfield Collection Sweater Trio from Fibre Craft FCM494.
