Crafting is fun for all ages and interests. This blog evolved from researching resources for friends and articles I write as a freelance writer. It is a place to share the information I discovered. Please feel free to leave comments and questions. I am always looking at new projects ideas for family and friends in areas of my own abilities and theirs. Bunny Garland
I originally thought about making the bunnies to go over the fire place and then realized I already had egg garland for there. So the bunnies moved. In between my holiday boxes and my donation projects I've been making some projects to cheer up the house while we are spending more time here during the shut down. So I decided bunny garland why not.
I made my bunnies large and bright. To make them this large I needed a K hook. Since they were large I needed fewer and I was good with that. I used the tail pattern from the Mary Maxim bunny pattern I wrote about earlier to avoid making pom pom's. I am just not a huge fan of making them I'd rather crochet tails.
I'm always happy to share links for free patterns and you can find it here. Those of you like scrap yarn projects will find this is a great way to use those little left over balls of yarn. My bunnies are products of previous afghan and doll projects. I am always looking for ways to finish off those left over bits and this project brings a little joy to what will be a much quieter Easter.

Crochet Easter Basket
I looked at a number of free patterns and even made one that I hope to post later that turned out to be a very small basket before finding this free pattern here. I chose this pattern for several reasons, but the most important I will say was the size. I wanted something that would hold the half dozen crochet Easter Eggs I made for my Easter box. While there were several cute options, many of them were small and I wanted the eggs to be able to hang out for the holidays in a container so they wouldn't get in the way.
While the pattern called for DK weight, I used acrylic worsted weight for this project and I liked the heavier weight for the basket, I thought it made it sturdier and able to handle the work of an Easter basket. The challenge I had was the handle. I think the double yarn for the worsted weight was too bulky. If I make this again, I might find a lighter sport or DK weight in a complimentary color to make the handle. That being said it is a tough little handle and since I sewed it on pretty tight it should last a while.
Another thing that drew me to this pattern was the basket weave stitch. While crocheting with 2 strands doing the front post and back post stitches was hard on my already worn hands, I loved the texture and look of the basket when it was completed. It had a nice classic look to it.
As always I'd like to thank those who donate their patterns as these patterns do make my gifting dollars go farther.

Duck with Orange Shirt and Egg
I love having my print copy of Crochet World, but access to the digital library makes downloading patterns so much easier. This pattern comes from Crochet World's April 2011 edition. The pattern is called "Easter Eggs." I downloaded a copy and put it in my holiday binders, only to come across it this year when I was looking for new Easter ideas.
While making this first one, I followed the pattern as written with the exception of the color. One of the box recipients is going through an orange phase, so I decided on an orange color scheme. Even following gauge, I found my egg was not big enough to hold the duck. However, while I could find a picture of the closed egg, I could not find a picture that actually demonstrated the duck would fit in the egg when it was closed. The example pictures looked more like a duck in a egg hoodie. I kept experimenting with my ducks and eggs until I got one to fit, but the egg at that point looked a bit oversized. However, the duck did fit. I will post pictures during the week.

Cowboy Easter Egg Chick
One of the people on my Easter list loves orange. So as I was looking through Crochet Village's Egghead pattern, I decided on an orange cowboy chick. I liked the hat so much I went on to use it for a duck pattern when I needed a third hat and the pattern I was using only had two options.

Easter Eggs Have Arrived
I promised I would post photographs of this years crop. So far three are finished, I do have more to make. I love making these. They are a great project to make when you are tired, need something with limited focus, or just looking for something simple to make.
I also like the fact that you control what kids are getting when you make your own. Yes, you still are at the mercy of the people who manufacturer your yarn, unless you spin your own, but you can control choices in stuffing, manufacturing environment, etc. With all the toy concerns lately, making something as easy as these is a good solution for a multipurpose holiday item. You can use them as toys, decorations, or as I describe in an earlier post substitute Easter Eggs.

Crochet Eggs for Easter
These are some of the eggs I made last year. I already have three more crocheted for this year. They are waiting for pictures. These were made using the pattern from Amigurumi World: Seriously Cute Crochet
I have been using up the ends of cotton dishcloth yarn to make this year’s eggs from and the plan is working well. I have been making spring dishcloths and using the remaining yarn to make my eggs. The cotton-variegated yarn makes pretty egg patterns.
These eggs are great for young and old. I am thinking of sending my MIL some to decorate with, as the colors are pretty. We learned last year they last rough treatment and are easy on the furniture during toss games. They can be used to hide if you give out prizes based on eggs found instead of having the prizes in the eggs. As my younger relatives have gotten older, I have found it more challenging to get items that fit into the eggs. I have resorted to a variety of clues in the eggs or color-coded eggs being equivalent to certain prizes. If I had enough crocheted eggs, I might eliminate the plastic eggs all together. However, by that time I will be looking at a new generation of children.

Bunnyzilla or What Happens to Easter Puppets When the Pattern Goes Wrong
Sorry I have no picture folks. It was a frustrating day after working on a pattern from a vintage book to realize the puppet part was not right and it made the bunny look like something from a horror flick. His face was distorted. I considered using it for a Halloween project, but the part for the hand is just not comfortable for use. I have to go back and figure out where I went wrong with the directions. I was upset because I loved the way the arm part worked. I had a pretty pink bunny coming together, but there is something wrong with how I constructed his mouth. Therefore, it is back to the drawing board.
On the upside, I have a few more dishcloths finished and I have started the yearly production of crochet Easter eggs. I will have photographs soon.
