T-Rex

As I mentioned in a previous post my second Christmas box that left the house was full of dinosaurs. I was on a very tight schedule so I tried to choose patterns that would work up quickly. I also changed from my normal pattern of using worsted weight yarn to lighter sport weight yarn as many of these dino patterns can be huge and I didn't want storage to become an issue.

The Little "Un T. Rex can only be found through the Wayback machine here. I've had this pattern on my to do list for a very long time and just never had the right occasion. I've got a couple of other more complicated T-Rex patterns that I'm hoping to put on a birthday finish list. It never hurts to have a couple. My experience is they tend to get in tangles with one another.

This one worked out well for my purposes. He stands well but you will want to stuff the legs firmly without over stuffing. It is a tough balance, but easier than several other dino patterns I've made with dinos that stand on the back legs.

Bert the Triceratops

While I speak mostly about the little girls I make presents for a couple of years ago a family member had a little boy who had a dinosaur baby theme. I made a blanket and some dinos. I always had the intention of getting back to making more dinos but life has a way of mocking you. So this Christmas after finishing off the girls stuff I got to working on the dinosaurs.

If you are ever stuck and need a quick dino crochet pattern Bizzy Crochet's Bert pattern is for you. You can find the free pattern here.

Bert was another great stash busting project. This was a lighter yarn I'd bought for a teddy bear project a while back and hadn't had a use for it since. Bert was a quick day project and using the lighter yarn and f hook he was a nice small size compared to many of the dino pattern that are huge and can make storage of the animals more challenging. This is also more in line with play size which is also a plus.

After finishing this around December 10th I immediately began work on a reindeer ornament and a T-Rex. The T-Rex is larger but using lighter yarn smaller than the pattern suggested. The reindeer is using the same yarn as Bert. I'm hoping to finish off that skein and see it gone with this project.

Pteranodon

This is the second Pteranodon is I finished from Planet June's Dinosaurs Set 2. I donated the first one to charity. This one is for a gift.

What was unique about this project is that it has been my travel project. I only work on it when I have appointments or other times that require waiting. While I could have finished it ages ago, if I had continued to work on it when I came home, the size of the project made it perfect for those long waits when you need something to occupy your time.

I have already put red yarn in my bag to start another one for a charity project. I need to complete two more for my charity goals and then I will put a new project in my travel bag.

I used Caron One Pound yarn and safety eyes to complete this project.

The Dino Donation Set

I wanted a picture of the set together before they headed out the door. This shot was taken Wednesday before I packaged them to drop them off on Thursday. I am going to try to get a few more made to donate before Christmas, but I have a heavy list of other projects due before then. We will have to see what happens. I am glad to have met this goal.

T-Rex

This was the last dino I had time to make before the deadline. I thought I might finish a Pteranodon. However, he still needed a beak and wings at bedtime. Therefore, I dropped off four dinos yesterday. The donations were looking thin so I am glad I made the time to make them.

This ami was made using Planet June's Tyrannosaurus Rex Pattern that I received for my birthday as part of her Dinosaurs Set 2. I have a T-Rex pattern as part of Gourmet Crochet's Amigurumi Dinosaurs that I have made several times. After making both patterns I can say they both have their strengths and weaknesses for my style of ami making. I like Planet June's one piece body and tail. However, I was not crazy about the bottom legs. I do think her smaller arms were better than those of the Gourmet Crochet pattern. They fit better. The heads are kind of a toss up with Planet June's having slightly more shaping to it.

I have already adapted the Gourmet Crochet pattern to avoid sewing the head on once. I may incorporate the tail design and make a hybrid of the two in the future, as T-Rex seems to be a popular request among the children in the family.

As far as my stash busting goal this actually finished off one of the smaller balls of Red Heart Super Saver yarn. I had a trash bag full of yarn balls and this stash busting has reduced it by a third so far. I am trying to remember to look into the bag before reaching for a full skein to start my smaller projects.

Plesiosaur

This is the third dinosaur I made for my donation project. The pattern is from Wolf Dreamer's Dino Buddies patterns that my husband purchased for my birthday. I continued my stash busting goal and used up some Bernat Super Value Lilac I had left over from a previous project.

This has quickly become one of my favorite dino patterns and one I keep returning to when I need a quick toy pattern for family, friend, or donation.

Parasaurolophus

Parasaurolophus is the second dino I finished for my donation project. The pattern was part of Planet June's Dinosaurs set of 3 I received for my birthday. This dino was part of my stash busting goal. I used a ball of Kelly Green Bernat Super Value Yarn that has been in my bag of yarn balls for a while now.

I loved the face on this project. I have liked the way Planet June designs her faces and horns. I still prefer the tails and bodies of Gourmet Crochet's Amigurumi Dinosaurs.

Dimetrodon

I finished my first donation dino for the project I have been blogging about for weeks. I have been promising to get going on this project forever and it feels so good to have one I can send off to the Church. I hope to have some friends to go with him. The plan was to have a herd. However, each journey or herd starts with the first.

This guy was made using Planet June's Dimetrodon pattern. I got the pattern as part of her Dinosaur Set of 3 for my birthday. You can purchase it as an individual pattern. This is the second pattern I have made from this set. The combination of detailed directions and zoomed in pictures that demonstrate the stitches make her patterns wonderful to follow.

I used Red Heart Super Saver from my stash to finish this guy. I am in a stash busting mode. While I keep buying yarn for specific projects, I am determined to use my amigurumi's as a reason to destash when possible.

Pteranodon

Terry the Pteranodon is the first dinosaur I finished from Planet June's Dinosaurs Set 2 that I received for my birthday. After buying Planet June's The Complete Idiot's Guide to Amigurumi I have wanted to purchase some of her animal patterns. I was excited to get the first two sets of her dinosaurs.

The directions were very clearly written and included extensive photographs to follow. Unlike my previous attempt at making a pterodactyl, I had no trouble attaching the wings to this project. The directions and the wings made the process clear. In fact, the style of wings makes them very moveable. I think this will be a popular feature for this Christmas present.

I used Caron One Pound yarn and safety eyes to complete this project.

Plesiosaur Crochet Dinosaur

I finished the first dinosaur from Wolf Dreamer's Dino Buddies patterns that my husband purchased for my birthday.

I found the directions to be clear and easy to follow. I used Red Heart Super Saver Yarn and saftey eyes.

I am really excited about my dino projects. I want to make some for a family birthday close to Christmas and others for Christmas presents. I am also thinking they would be good for donations if I can get myself organized. I am developing a collection of patterns that will delight the children and keep me from never wanting to make another dino again. As much as I love Gourmet Crochet's Amigurumi Dinosaurs, I have made so many that I needed to try something new.
