Iggy the Penguin

Iggy has taken to hanging out in the window of the room my DH is using to work from home. He's trying to provide a little holiday cheer to the working day. Over the years I've made various holiday ami's for my husband to decorate his actual work cube but since he's working from home these days it seemed like a good time for a new companion. Since DH was kind enough to buy the Christmas Mini's patterns to help me complete my set of holiday patterns from this designer it seemed only fair he get his favorite pattern from the bunch. You can purchase the pattern set here.

I was introduced to this designer through her Halloween patterns and I quickly picked up all her holiday patterns and preordered her Mini Kingdom: Crochet 36 Tiny Amigurumi Royals! and can't wait to begin making the patterns.

I had hoped to get more of these finished for my Christmas box but first I need to finish the presents that go with the books I'm sending. Then we will see what Christmas ami's I can send as well.

Peppermint Snowman

I don't often take time to make decorations for our house at Christmas, but I couldn't resist trying out this part of the Large Peppermint People Pattern found in Mary Maxim's e-patterns here. My husband loves this guy so it was worth taking the time. For those of you familiar with ami's this is not an ami style pattern. Each piece is worked flat and sewn together. The arms and feet are the only parts worked in the round.

I didn't have time to make the gingerbread man this year, but I hope to get him on my list for next year's project. While it says "large" I didn't find them to be that large. While not tree ornaments, mine was a good size that didn't take up much space in the living room. Then again, I didn't check the gauge either.

Reindeer Amigurumi

As I mentioned in a previous post I have been collecting vintage patterns from books and magazines. This pattern was adapted from Annie's Crochet Newsletter Nov-Dec 1991. The original pattern includes a reindeer with arms and legs. I did crochet a leg and held it up to the reindeer to see how it would look and it did not have the same look as the one on the pattern picture.

However, my husband captured what made this reindeer perfect. He reminded him of the rubber duckie reindeer we had mailed a few Christmas packages earlier. I have a younger relative that loves the rubber duckie creatures and this guy has that look. Another relative is discussing making a sleigh so I suspect there will be a herd of these created before the Christmas season is over.

I of course want at least one like Rudolph here and a couple with black noses as well. In fact I think I may even have a sleigh of my own for them to pull.

For those of you who arrived here looking for free Christmas patterns please feel free to visit the Christmas Knit and Crochet Page or the Christmas Ornament Page for free patterns.

Several people asked me about the toys I was talking about. These are the Rubber Duckie Reindeer Toys I was talking about.

Granny Square Baby Ball

I wanted to experiment with granny squares and I need baby toys for Christmas. I started with the goal of making blocks. My first attempt created a toy ball. I am still working out the kinks to get square corners, but I really liked the festive colors and a ball is a customary toy for kids.

What I want to do is make a series of different colored blocks that would work for various holidays to add to the child’s supply. For instance, I am working on some squares now with fall colors and will experiment with a different method of getting them joined to maintain a square. I was thinking perhaps some Halloween and eventually Christmas colors again would make for some fun toys and decorations.

For my first step into the world of grannies I was not too disappointed.
