Dippity Doos Dishcloth

I haven't finished posting all the ami's but I needed a break. That is one of the reasons I added dishcloths to both the crochet swaps I was involved with this month. They were a nice break from all the amis I was making. I personally like getting them because they brighten my kitchen. I always ask before adding them to a package, but most other crocheters I've swapped with also seem to like them. I find them to be both practical and pretty. I enjoy working on them as I try out stitches I don't always encounter in my doll and ami projects.

My swap partner liked red and since I needed a contrasting color, black seemed a good choice. I found this pattern in Learn-a-Stitch Crochet Dishcloths which is currently out of print. I see it pretty frequently in places that sell used crochet books. It has some of my favorite dishcloth patterns.

Checks Dishcloth

This dishcloth was for the second crochet swap. Again, it was a nice break in the middle of crocheting ami's. This pattern came from a Leisure Arts publications simply called Crochet Dishcloths #5951. This was an odd publication. It came out in 2013 and it was on my list of patterns to buy. There were several patterns I knew I wanted to make. Then it was gone. I managed to get a copy, but it wasn't easy to find. I've never seen one come out and disappear so quickly before.

This swap partner asked for pink and grey. I love this variegated pink cotton. Grey is not an easy cotton color to find, so I decided on black again as my contrasting color. This one almost didn't make it into the box. I think I'll be making another one at some point.

Mrs. Claus Pig

This is the last of the holiday pigs. I could have gone the Santa route, but Mrs. Claus deserves some recognition of her hard work during the holidays, too. As with the previous pigs, this was an adjustment of Little Crochet Piggy found here. Her hat is adapted from Gourmet Crochet's Happy Holidays Crochet Amigurumi.

Santa Elephant

I ran across Redheart's free Elenora Elephant Ornament pattern while working on their free Safari pattern last year. I didn't see myself needing an elephant ornament, but I kept it in the back of my mind for future reference. Looking at Elenora, I thought she could easily be transformed into a Santa elephant without much effort.

To change the legs and the arms it was a matter of changing colors and yarns to get the Santa look. The jacket required a little more shaping and it wasn't quite what I wanted. I think to work in this size, I'd probably have to go to thread to get it to be what I really wanted. The hat came from an old Barbie pattern.

Elephant Twins

My Swap Partner had not requested holiday elephants. I just was in a holiday mood when I decided on my theme. Therefore, I decided I needed to include at least one non-themed item. After I realized the Red Heart Baby wasn’t going to work, I searched through my Crochet World DVD to see what they had for elephant patterns. I found one in the June 2001 Crochet World Magazine called Elephant Twins.

My swap partner had requested blue and red as favorite colors so I shifted the pink dress of the original pattern to red and left the boy in his blue suit.

I followed the pattern for the girl, but switched to the Red Heart ears when making the boy. They just worked better. When I found this pattern, I had hoped it would work for as a substitute for the Red Heart Baby pattern. However, the assembly proved to be awkward and that is when I hit on the idea of using the holiday patterns for the Pilgrim and Leprechaun.

While I liked the girl's dress, I probably would not return to this pattern. I much preferred the pattern I used for the Easter elephant which also has a boy.

Elephant Pilgrim

As I mentioned in the Elephant Witch post, as I considered more complicated holiday ami's finding an appropriate elephant pattern was a challenge. Then I considered trying to work without an elephant pattern and focusing on the holiday outfit. I had been gifted Peter and Patty Pilgrim during one of Crochetville's Wish Lists. I changed the human features to grey flattened features and added the ears and trunk from Red Heart's Baby Elephant pattern found here.

I still wasn't happy with the leg situation, but I addressed that when I made the St. Patrick's Day Elephant.

Pig Pilgrim

I didn't go the same route with the Pilgrim pig as I chose for the elephant. I wanted to keep these ami's small and I didn't have a working model for a smaller holiday pig. I stuck with Little Crochet Piggy found here. However, I had made holiday Hello Kitty's on several occasions and I moved from that idea to making my Pilgrim girl pig.

My biggest regret on this pig is that her dress was too short. I was focused on getting the accessories correct and finding colored eyes in my stash, that I somehow completely missed the fact that her skirt was too short when I ended it off. I still think she makes a charming Thanksgiving pig.

The Easter Bunny Brought Crochet

The Easter Bunny knows I love to crochet and once againg filled my basket with some items from my wish list of patterns.

For my doll donation project I got some new outfits to make for the 5" Itty Bitty Dolls, the 15" Baby Dolls, and the 18" Dolls.

From Maggie's Crochet I recieved:

18 Inch Doll Icelandic Ensemble

18 Inch Lindsay, Laura and Lola

Scrap Potholders and Mats I've wanted to work more in thread and these are beautiful and a great way to practice.

The bunny was feeling extra nice and also dropped off:

Pumpkin Patch People

For the 5 Inch Doll Donation Project:

Bitsy Betsy and her Blankie

For the 15 Inch Baby Doll Project

Bitty Baby Baby Bunting

Bitty Baby Sweater and Hat

I am fortunate to have such an Easter Bunny that is so supportive of all my crochet projects.

Happy Easter

While today is Good Friday, I don't post on the weekends. For those of you who celebrate, I wish you a very Happy Easter. I hope it is filled with family and friends.

I didn't finish nearly as many crocheted projects as I usually do for Easter. However, these are my completed Easter projects for the year.

Pig Witch

While I experimented with a variety of elephant patterns, once I found a pig pattern that worked, for the most part I stuck with it changing the costumes to match the holiday theme. The Pig Witch is based on the free Red Heart pattern Little Crochet Piggy found here. This was the first experiment I made with adding sleeves to the pattern. I got better as I worked on more holiday pigs. The dress easily adapted and as with the elephant, the hat came from an old Barbie pattern.

Elephant Witch

Continuing with the holiday theme of this swap I introduce the Halloween entry, the witch. This was one of the earlier elephants I made.

It was adapted from another free Red Heart pattern Baby's Elephant found here. The witches hat and outfit were adapted from a Barbie pattern I've used on a variety of ami's over the years.

One change I'd probably make with this pattern is to have crocheted the bottom of the elephant black to make the elephant a bit more modest.

I had originally thought I'd use this as the model for the rest of the holiday elephants, but I found the body was too short and stubby to make dressing easy. I realized I'd have to rethink the process as many of the other outfits were going to be far more detailed and less likely to fit this style of ami. However, I do think the baby made a cute witch.

Cowboy Ducky

My DH purchased Cowboy Ducky pattern for me for Valentine's Day. I wanted to make it as the perfect Easter basket toy for a little boy on my Easter basket list. Right before Easter seemed the perfect time to pause in discussing swap projects and to post this Easter project. This is an adorable pattern and it works up quickly. You can purchase the pattern here.

I'm always looking for quick, cute, and smaller sized projects that fit the Easter bunny, chicken, and duck theme. While I have a few, I like trying new ones each year. I'm not great at repeating the same project multiple times. I also love the idea that the hat and bandana patterns can be reused on other future ami projects.

Easter Pig

I participated in two swaps this month. One was specifically ami themed, but the other seemed appropriate to include amis.

This project was made by adapting the free Red Heart pattern Little Crochet Piggy found here. I made the skirt a little fancier and I added sleeves. I also adapted a Barbie pattern to add an Easter hat. The Easter basket was made by adapting a free Barbie pattern for an Easter basket found here.

I love finding ways to use my doll clothes patterns to add more to my amis.

One great find that was helpful for this and the elephant project were tiny Easter Eggs at Michaels. In the past, I've found them at JoAnn's or Christmas Tree Shops, but this year no luck. They had larger eggs, but no eggs that would fit inside mini Easter baskets. While at Michaels to get something else I was rather surprised to find they had the tiny eggs.

Easter Elephant

Once again I got distracted working on swaps and other projects and didn't get to posting. I hope to get caught up soon.

I thought I'd post the Easter projects first. First up was an Easter elephant I made for an ami swap. I participated in Crochetville's ami swap and decided on a holiday elephant theme for my partner. The challenge was finding unique ways to have holiday ami's without making them all identical.

This elephant was made using the Reginald and Regina Elephant free pattern located here. I changed the colors to give it a more holiday feel. For the Easter basket I expanded a free Barbie pattern for an Easter basket found here. There is also a free AG one found here.

This was a really great pattern. While I only made the girl doll, I found the clothing is a size that will fit the baby dolls I'm working on to donate giving me additional free patterns to use. I wish I had found this pattern first. This was one of the last elephants I made and didn't have enough time to make the companion male elephant to send. If I need another elephant in the future, I would start here first.
