Crafting is fun for all ages and interests. This blog evolved from researching resources for friends and articles I write as a freelance writer. It is a place to share the information I discovered. Please feel free to leave comments and questions. I am always looking at new projects ideas for family and friends in areas of my own abilities and theirs. Blankets for the Twins
I have no idea why but blankets were hard this last year. I whipped up the doll blankets without problem, but when it came time to make real baby blankets I ripped out more than I actually crocheted. I don't have a picture of the one I sent all the holiday gifts to, again stupid on my part. However, I did get smarter before the baby shower for the twins and got pictures.
The first is actually a Herschners pattern from a kit I bought ages ago and never finished. I HATED the yarn but liked the pattern. So I tossed the yarn and made the blanket using Caron Simply Soft. The second is a Shell Stitched Baby Blanket free pattern found here. I loved the colors on this blanket and honestly it was what made me want to try it.

Mary Maxim's Car Blanket
I originally made this as a Christmas gift, but I decided that due to circumstances it is going to be a birthday gift instead.
This was made using a Mary Maxim kit found here. My major disappointment with this kit was it came with Red Heart sport yarn instead of Mary Maxim yarn. I realize it made the kit price cheaper, but I'd rather have paid more and gotten a less scratchy yarn.
The pattern worked up quickly and it is a cute blanket for a little one. I did choose to change the pattern of the cars. I wanted more variety, so I didn't follow the pattern which suggested mostly VW bug type cars. I liked the different cars on the road. I plan to make more of these in the future.

Bear Lovey Blanket
I have made a few of these Bear Security Blankets from B Is for Baby from Annie's Attic. This one was for the granddaughter of my swap partner. I wanted something cute and feminine. The previous ones I made had been for boys.
I started by making the blanket section with variegated Red Heart Plum Pudding with Caron One Pound Lavender Blue as the accent color. I was not pleased with the look so I pulled it out and switched the colors. I liked the look better with the Lavender Blue as the main color and the Plum Pudding as the accent.

The Baby Blankets were a Hit
I mentioned in an earlier blog about this project about my preferences for baby projects. Just because I prefer colors that wash and shapes that do not require rectangle edges does not mean the recipients will also have the same views. While most people are polite on receiving baby gifts, it is great when you get positive feedback that people enjoy the items you make.
The bear blankie was also popular. Although, my husband was thrilled to discover the gift that entertained the toddler the longest was the gift bag. He found one covered with animals and the child created a game playing name the animal with his parents.
Therefore, while my projects were a hit, the award for best gift goes to my husband for the gift bag.

Bear Security Blanket
The baby that I made the Circus Baby Afghan for has a big brother. I decided to make the Bear Security Blanket from B Is for Baby from Annie's Attic for him. I had made one of these before. Last time I followed the pattern colors. This time I decided to use some darker, more cleaning friendly colors. The white is beautiful, but hardly friendly to dirt. The green looks white in this picture, but it is a bit darker.
I like the idea of a transition blanket. The blanket combines a teddy bear with a shorter blanket that is easier to carry and less likely to drag on the floor. The child still has a blanket. The smaller blanket is not the burden that full size baby blankets are to travel with constantly.

Circus Star Baby Afghan
This pattern comes from B Is for Baby from Annie's Attic. I keep finding useful patterns in this book that I had not noticed before. Realizing I needed a baby blanket pattern, I started searching through my printed patterns and my books. I was looking for something that was not a rectangle shape. The ends can sometimes be challenging to keep straight. The star pattern seemed a great alternative.
The primary colors were also an attraction. They create a bright and cheerful blanket. These colors also have the advantage of making a blanket that is easier to keep clean. While the pastels are more traditional for babies, they tend to stain easily making them more challenging to keep clean.
This blanket will be headed off to a family friend soon. However, it has inspired me to think about looking at some crayon afghan patterns.

Teddy Bear Baby Blanket
I made this for a little boy for Christmas. The pattern is from B Is for Baby (Annie's Attic: Crochet)
I love these small projects that keep teaching me new skills and challenging me to learn how to do something new with my crocheting. I pulled this blanket out several times before I managed to get it to work. The pattern was not complicated, just different from what I was expecting and this was good. It was a chance to stretch myself and because it was a small project, I was still able to finish in a reasonable time period.
