Green Prayer Shawl

I started this prayer shawl a year ago and then sort of hit a crochet funk and it took me a while to get crocheting again. When I started again my focus was on getting the dolls ready for the donation, but I kept looking at the sad shawl waiting for me to finish it. A couple of weeks ago when had the chance to go back to my library yarn group, I decided it would be the perfect project to take and finish up.

I adapted the Baptismal shawl from The Crocheted Prayer Shawl Companion: 37 Patterns to Embrace, Inspire, and Celebrate Life that I purchased a while back. I liked the pattern and realized Homespun would create a warmer, heavier shawl than the one pictured, but I was OK with that knowing it was going to a Prayer Shawl ministry.

I've almost finished a pink shawl using tulip Homespun yarn, but I'm one skein short. The place I normally get my Homespun was out, so I'll have to pursue other alternatives. While I'm waiting, I started another shawl using some yarn sent to me from a wonderful person in AL who no longer works with Homespun.

I found some wonderful patterns during the Labor Day sales and am looking forward to some different kinds of projects after I finish off these Prayer shawls.

Shawl for a Wedding Guest

I wanted a shawl to wear over a dress I bought for a July wedding. I found the Five Point Diamond Shawl in the Leisure Arts leaflet Make in a Weekend Shawls that I had picked up a while back. This was a great choice for the wedding. I normally don't wear sweaters, but there are times when a light shawl is welcome when the A/C is a bit cool.

The shawl worked up quickly using Caron Super Soft. The one adjustment I made for myself to make following the pattern easier is I put the repeated rows in pencil for rows 21-41 at the bottom of the second page. This way when I finished a row I never had to think about which row I was supposed to be working on next. The book says rows 21-41 repeat rows 15-20, which are repeating rows 9-14. It was easier just to write it out, rather than trying to look back after finishing each row.

I didn't end up wearing this dress to the wedding. As I was getting the pictures taken for this post prior to packing it for the wedding, I realized the dress had several flaws and returned it for something that still allowed me to use my shawl. Do to time issues; I didn't take a picture of that outfit.

Reader's Shawl

In the fall I decided for the first time to make something wearable for myself. I had looked at several reader's wraps and settled on one I found at Annie's called the Quick & Easy Cozy Crocheted Wrap. Quick fit my attention span and easy worked for my talent with wearables. I finished my shawl right after Christmas.

I thought I had enough Hobby Lobby yarn on hand, but found I had to reorder as one of the skeins was not the same color as the others despite the labels claims. I made mine slightly longer than the pattern called for, I wanted the pockets to fit comfortably. I find they are big enough they will even hold a skein of yarn while I'm crocheting.

I'm planning on experimenting with more wraps, but this has become my comfortable around the house warmer. I've never been a fan of sweaters, but this adds just the warmth I need on these cold days and when I'm too warm it shrugs right off.
