Bee

I had a request from a honey maker for some decorations for a farmer's market table. This is the first of the bees. As I went hunting for bee patterns I was pleasantly suprised to discover one of my favorite Ami designers Aradiya Toys not only had a pattern but it was free and you can find it here.

I've been on a quest to use up yarn on hand where ever possible. The pattern calls for Ariadna KAJA yarn and a .85mm steel crochet thread hook and creates about a 5cm bee. I'd didn't know much about this yarn but in looking it up online it looks to be a crochet thread, based on the hook size that makes sense.

I wanted a slightly larger bee and where possible I've been trying to use yarn on hand. I had two choices of sports cotton but loooking at my colors on hand I went with Omega Sinfonia yellow and black. Having used this yarn and worked with patterns from this designer before I chose a b hook and I liked the look of the finished bee.

Pikachu

I have a younger family member that has been struggling with learning to read. She developed an interest in the Pokémon game and I found a series of out of print early chapter Pokémon books that she decided to read. To encourage the process I decided I would start making some of the characters found in this series for her birthday and Christmas.

I used Wolfdreamer's free Pikachu pattern and it was very easy to follow. I really cannot thank those that donate their talents and provide free patterns enough. I am working on a Lapras pattern now. I have downloaded a few more characters from the book series. We will see how far I get with all the other projects I have going. At least there will always be Pikachu.

Second Pirate Completed

I have the second of the set of three I promised myself I would finish done. The last one will have the eye patch people have been asking about using. I have been trying to make each one unique so they use different accessories. The last pirate will be wearing the same style captain's hat as this one.

This pirate was made using Crafty Deb's Pirate Pattern set. After I finish with the spring birthday rush, I am hoping to make some for the toy donations that come in the summer and Christmas. I will have to see what happens.

My First Pirate Completed

I promised I would get to Crafty Deb's Pirates pattern for a spring birthday and I have the first one completed. While all ami patterns are adaptable, what I like about this one is that it is designed to help the person individualize the pattern for the child or other person receiving the pirate. Basic body structures and lists of accessories are provided to individually create your own pirate or follow the designs given.

Since the accessories are not too challenging this could be a fun way to engage children in designing their own pirate without fear that the project will be too taxing for the person crocheting the item. My plan is to make two more before my shipping deadline. I would also like to put some away for donations as these work up quickly and are a great use for extra scrap yarn.
