Crafting is fun for all ages and interests. This blog evolved from researching resources for friends and articles I write as a freelance writer. It is a place to share the information I discovered. Please feel free to leave comments and questions. I am always looking at new projects ideas for family and friends in areas of my own abilities and theirs. Raichu
For those of you who are Pokémon fans I will confess openly I chose Raichu because the tail looked like it would be interesting to construct and I thought I could complete him in the time I had left before the crochet swap mailing deadline. Sorry, I just never have learned much about Pokémon despite making the characters for others.
I found the pattern for this Pokémon inspired character here. While the tail lured me in, the legs ending up being an interesting project. He sits back a bit on his legs and getting that to work right was an interesting challenge. I also found the ears to be a bit harder to construct than I expected. I do think he was worth the effort.
I still have one more elephant project to post next week and then I think it’s back to doll clothes for my donation project. I'll finally be caught up on my back posts from my swaps.

Snorlax
As I mentioned before, I made some Pokémon inspired amis for a crochet swap partner's sons. I'd made Snorlax before using the pattern found here. It worked out well but having seen the free one available here it seemed a better choice.
I liked the detail and the assembly of the second pattern, better. It was still challenging, but the final project looked better than the first one I'd made previously. Oddly, I ran into problems with the yarn choice. I thought I had the blue I needed in the standard brands of acrylic yarn I use. When I checked, I found out I only had Wool Ease available and it proved to have a smaller gauge than the regular acrylics I used on the rest of the body. In some places, I found I had to use sports weight to get the body to match. Lesson learned.
It is nice to have free patterns to choose from when trying to decide on these projects. I feel very fortunate that so many generous designers freely share their talents with the rest of us.

Pikachu
One of my swap partners mentioned her sons love Pokémon. She wasn't specific about which ones, so I went looking for some free Pokémon inspired ami patterns to see if I could make some to send off in her package. Pikachu seemed like a good choice. I'd had success making him for a family member before, so I looked up the pattern found here and got started. Of the three I made, this one was the easiest.

Snubbull
I finished Snubbull with the help of another free pattern this one from Nannette's crochet found here. This character goes with the 12th book in the chapter book series I am working to illustrate with ami's. I have decided after this one to take a break and work on some characters other than Pokémon for a bit.
I received some wonderful patterns for Easter and I have already started one of them to replace the Easter toys decorating my husband's office.

Pokeball
I had limited crochet time yesterday, so as I was working through the free patterns I had printed I decided to finish off the Pokeball. This is a free pattern offered by the author of one of my favorite crocheted food books, Tasty Crochet: A Pantry Full of Patterns for 33 Tasty Treats
The Pokeball works up quick and as the designer mentions is a much softer alternative for children than the hard plastic ones available in the stores.

Snorlax
Thanks to a generous free pattern designer I managed to finish Snorlax.
Snorlax is found in the ninth book of the Scholastic Chapter book series, Lapras the tenth. Pikachu was of course in the first book. Since I am shipping them all for a May birthday, my focus has been on finding patterns I can make for the characters that are in the books found in this particular 15 book series. I am only grateful some of the books combine characters from previous books.
My hope is to make the Snubull next, although not having read the directions I make no promises. That character is found in book 12. It appears I have to go back and either find or work on the patterns I have for the earlier characters.

Pikachu
I have a younger family member that has been struggling with learning to read. She developed an interest in the Pokémon game and I found a series of out of print early chapter Pokémon books that she decided to read. To encourage the process I decided I would start making some of the characters found in this series for her birthday and Christmas.
I used Wolfdreamer's free Pikachu pattern and it was very easy to follow. I really cannot thank those that donate their talents and provide free patterns enough. I am working on a Lapras pattern now. I have downloaded a few more characters from the book series. We will see how far I get with all the other projects I have going. At least there will always be Pikachu.
