Bring a Project to the Doctor's Office

I am not a fan of waiting. Patience is a virtue and it is much easier to have when I am distracted. Books, magazines, and puzzles do not work for me. The distractions of children, noises, and the purpose for being in the office generally keep me from being able to focus my attention on reading. However, I found one of the benefits of crocheting is travel. When I have to wait, my travel bag comes with me. My loving husband outfitted my travel bag this past Christmas. He replaced my old hooks with new ones leaving the old set to sit in the travel bag waiting for any trip that requires prolonged waiting. He added a row counter and I had an extra scissors.

Now I take simple projects with me to various appointments and I am much calmer and patient while waiting. I have the benefit of knowing my time is not wasted. I am finishing work that I may not have been doing had I stayed home. I always bring more than I think I will need and during extra long waits have been glad of the planning.

This option is obviously not limited to crocheting. Those who have crafts that can travel can take advantage of these moments to complete tasks. I have seen knitters and people with plastic canvas working away at projects while we all wait. Others look on as if we are crazy, until the magazines are finished and the book loses its interest.

Waiting is never enjoyable, but it does not have to be wasted time. You can find something to keep you engaged and productive.

What a good idea. I may have to find some small cross stitch projects to take along in waiting rooms.

This is a fabulous idea. I'm always a nervous wreck in the waiting room and subsequent wait for the doctor. I'll remember this for my next appt.

My Gyn ended up delivering a child during my appointment which is what prompted this post. The waiting room was packed and the atmosphere was not friendly. I however had a bunny and a duck almost finished. I did not "enjoy" the wait. However, it was nice to know I completed something positive while waiting.

I would not suggest bringing something to an interview, but for the most part, I take something to most places I have to wait for people. I have a much better attitude when I meet with them and I feel productive while waiting.

I hate to wait. I have no patience. None. Zip. Zero. I am so thankful I have an iPhone and a Nook now. I take them everywhere.

I can't read when I have to wait and several places are very cranky about cell useage. That is why I have resorted to my crafts. I have tried bringing books, but when kids are crying and people moving around I have no focus for even the best story.

I bring my cell phone and work! I work at Demand Media as a titler and I can sit and make some extra money...or sometimes I just go and chat on facebook. My smartphone makes my life down-time free...in fact I kind of miss having nothing to do. Who am I kidding, I am in desperate need of having nothing to do!!!! Maybe I should schedule a doc appointment and leave my phone at home! ;)

This is a great idea, Bailey. I'm not a crafty one though. But, definitely one should find good use for the inevitable wait.

This is a great idea. I always sit there playing on my phone or sometimes take a book to read.
