Pink Seed Stitch Doll Blanket

Doll blankets used to be my traveling projects but with COVID I'm not traveling much these days and taking a project with me isn't a healthy choice. However, I have been visiting with family and doing some other stuff via teleconferencing and thus the doll blankets are being worked on during those times. I also find they are a nice relaxing project between some of the other projects as most of these require minimal counting and monitoring to keep the project in check.

I'm continuing to work on reducing my stash. I had picked up some Red Heart Super Saver Ombre Jazzy when it was on sale during my travels as I really do have a thing for striped and variegated yarn. This has larger stripes than I'm used to working on but I suspected it would work for blankets.

This is a simple crochet seed stitch project. I like it because it is quite relaxing and easy on my hands. The border is a chain stitch border. I make it large enough to fit the 18" dolls but it goes in a bag of doll blankets that can be used for any donated dolls or stuffed animals that come into the doll donation.

I haven't picked out the blankets that will be donated with the 18" dolls yet. Other than the Lil Cutesies doll all the baby dolls have their blankets in their donation storage bags. I have a bag per doll to keep the stuff separated to make sure each doll is getting enough items. At some point I'll decide which blankets will go with the two 18" dolls for this year. I'm just not ready to pick yet.

Basket Weave Doll Blanket

I could have sworn I had a basket weave doll blanket pattern but when I went to find a pattern to start this blanket I couldn't find one so I just played with the basket weave stitch to create this one.

This was my January and early February travel project. I find the basket weave stitch to be a relaxing stitch which is perfect when you are working on a project while waiting. As I write this in early February, I'm hoping to get another blanket started today so I will have my travel project ready to go the next time I need it. It really does make waiting less stressful and I feel like I'm accomplishing something during time that I really can't do much else.

This was a skein of big ball sport purple yarn I found while exploring my stash, not the other purple yarn you've seen previously. This project didn't finish this skein so I will have to find other projects to finish it off.

Post Stitch Baby Blanket

The Post Stitch Baby Doll Blanket was the second blanket I finished while working on the Down on the Farm Baby Blanket. This is also part of the Annabelle's Doll Blanket set. You can purchase it here.

What I like about this set of patterns is that they aren't difficult to make, but when complicated they look quite nice. I also like the way they work with colors. While the patterns call for lighter weight yarn, I always use worsted weight yarn because I have more of it on hand and it works up faster. The weight isn't as much of an issue as it is when you want to put the blanket on a child.

I had forgotten how relaxing these projects can be when you need something to do without being able to focus on counting and changing stitches.

Tisket Tasket Doll Blanket

As I was working on the Down on the Farm Baby Blanket I found I needed a couple of projects that were simple and easy to travel with which definitely wasn't the Farm blanket. After making the blanket for the Big Sister project I decided it would be fun to make a few. This one is the Tisket Tasket pattern from Annabelle's Doll Blanket Pattern set that can be purchased here.

Baby Doll Blanket

I love the old leaflets that have complete wardrobes and accessories for dolls. You don't see them much anymore, but when I can find the out of print ones I buy them. Even if they aren't a perfect fit for the dolls I'm donating, I find I can often adapt patterns if I work an extra panel in the back if the doll is a bit bigger or reduce the size if the doll in the pattern is larger. Sometimes the clothes don't work, but the accessories are wonderful. That was the case when I purchased the out of print Dressing Up Dolly, Leisure Arts 2725. The original dolls these were designed for aren't available, however, the items are working out for my modern substitutes.

Today we have the blanket that goes with the basket I mentioned on Friday. This was actually not designed to go with the basket, but as part of the Christening set. That pattern called for sports weight yarn and knowing I'd already decided this one would be for the 15 inch doll, I opted to make it with worsted weight yarn to make it large enough to use with the basket.

The blanket has a pretty weave pattern to it and it works up nicely. I plan to try some of the outfits in this leaflet at some point for the 12-inch donation doll. Up next, I am working on a sweater set for the 15-inch doll from a pattern that the Easter Bunny dropped off.
