Doll Donations

I have been blessed with amazing fairy Godmothers on Crochetville who have been supporting my doll donation project. These should have been posted months ago, but I am thrilled I have them posted now. I love being able to go back and look at previous year's donations and it is harder to do when I don't post things.

My MO FGM has blessed me with beautiful blankets and doll clothes this year.

My MS Fairy Godmother sent me doll blankets that are just so pretty. I would never make blankets as good as the ones people send me. The kids are so blessed by all of you.

Thankful Thursday: Crochet Hamburger and Fries

Once again I am thankful for thoughtful members of Crochetville who continue to support Aztec wishes Holiday Toy Drive. Saturday I received a package from another Crochetville Fairy Godmother with a hamburger with lots of condiments and fries. She also sent a beautiful granny square doll blanket for the toy drive.

Another Crochetville Fairy Godmother has come through with a doll blanket for my doll donation project.

I love the color and softness of this yarn. There are going to be some warm and comfy dolls this Christmas.

Crochet Butterfly Magnet

I've been writing quite a bit about Crochetville's wish list and Tuesday a present from a Texas Fairy Godmother arrived at my door. This beautiful crochet butterfly magnet came with a beautiful card (how she knew I loved teddy bears I don't know) and an incredibly thoughtful hand written note. It is amazing how our thoughtful gestures do brighten the days of those around us.

Kitty Dishcloth

One way to revive something is to participate. The Crochetville wish list has always been one of my favorite social activities there, but in recent years it has fallen off. I've answered a number of shopping requests over the years, but this round I decided it was time to make some small items and send them out into the world to see if it brings back some connections to our community.

One way to do that is to look for clues on the wish lists. One mentioned a love of cats and since my project goal is dishcloths and pot holders I went looking for a pattern that met that theme. I found the pot holder pretty quickly and will be posting my finished product soon. The dishcloth proved more elusive. However, I came across Michele Wilcox's Kitty Dishcloth in the out of print Big Book of Scrap Crochet Projects that I'd picked up while shopping at one of my favorite used book sites.

I did make a couple of changes to the original pattern. I used off white instead of the camel used in the pattern because I am determined to use up some of my cotton stash and camel is just not a frequent color I buy. I also gave the cat a pink nose. The black seemed a little harsh.

I like the way this pattern came out and I'm looking forward to making several other of the dishcloth/potholder patterns I originally purchased this book to find.

Hexagon Dishcloth

This is one of my favorite dishcloth patterns. It is both pretty and practical. It is a great scrubbing dishcloth and it can double as a hot pad due to it's extra thickness. Learn-a-Stitch Crochet Dishcloths is out of print but Annie's e-pattern central is bringing some of their favorites back as e-books so as of the writing of this blog you can find it here.

This dishcloth is going out as part of Crochetville's wishlist. I mentioned I'd be making more football's from Month to Month Dishcloths and sure enough this one is headed out in the same package.

I've been getting quite a bit of use out of that book recently.

Independence Day Wish List Granted

A wonderful MO Fairy Godmother from Crochetville sent me a package of July 4th goodies yesterday. I got a beautiful holiday dishtowel with a crocheted dishtowel topper. I keep promising I'm going to learn to make these, but I've yet to do so. I also got a pot scrubber that can easily double as a hot pad for my busy July 4th kitchen. The thoughtful FGM also included a set of note cards.

I can never say enough about the thoughtful people I encounter at Crochetville. There are many kind and generous souls who reach out to each other to make them feel special and though of when they least expect it.

Crocheted Dishcloths Arrived in the Mail

I love Crochetville. It is a wonderful, friendly online community. I participate regularly in their online wishlists and less frequently in their swaps.

On Saturday, a package arrived only marked as coming from my FGM. With the postal markings I was able to figure out it arrived from NC. Inside was a delightful spread of summer dishcloths to brighten my day. I also got a hot pad and what we used to call a Boo Boo Bunny.

I continue to be amazed at the thoughtful carrying people that participate there. So thank you FGM and thank you to all the people who make it such a welcoming and friendly community.

Thankful Thursday

I regret that finding a local crochet group hasn't worked out for me. However, I am very thankful for the online support I've found among fellow Bloggers and at Crochetville. Today I wanted to say thanks for all the support and encouragement I get. There are so many wonderful people who provide advice and encouragement and I wanted to acknowledge how important they are in keeping my work going.

I also received some special gifts in the last few weeks. As part of the Crochetville's wishlist a Fairy Godmother purchased the American Girl Flower Girl pattern to help me with my donation project. I also received a copy of Crochet Wraps Every Which Way as part of a giveaway at Cute Crochet Chat. This year I've just started making shawls and I love the patterns in the book.

I haven't given up on finding a local group of crocheters, but I have found some amazing people online that do fill the gap.

I won a contest for a Leisure Arts books Texting Mittsat Cute Crochet Chat. If I ever get through my Easter crocheting, these are going to make some great gifts.

I also have been blessed with some wonderful Fairy Godmothers during Crochetville's latest round of wish lists. I received a couple more dress patterns for my doll donation project AG Emerald Isle, which I think I finally found a substitute yarn that will work for the discontinued yarn in the pattern. More on that later. This gives me another historical and holiday dress to add to my donation box. The second dress I received was another historical one, Bathing Beauty. I am excited for not only another historical dress, but also the chance to challenge my thread skills. To help with my Easter box projects I was gifted the Bunny with Cradle Purse that I am looking forward to making.

There are many thoughtful people out there and it is important to acknowledge the great joy they bring to our lives. I often do think about the people who send me stuff through wish lists, swaps, or contests when I pull out a pattern to work on for one of my projects and it makes me smile to think of their gift blessing someone else.

Acts of Kindness

I received this beautiful thread crocheted witch cookie cutter doll as part of the Crochetville Wish List and it could not have come at a better time. I lost a family member at the beginning of September. It was not unexpected, but it hit me harder than I expected.

This woman was a mentor. In fact, she introduced me to crochet and knitting. She patiently worked through my challenges, although I never really did move beyond dishcloths with knitting. However, her mentoring went beyond crafts and while I knew the time was coming that we would part, it did not make the parting easier. Having experienced other partings, even closer in relation, I thought I was prepared I was not.

With Halloween and all the other fall holidays coming, I'm working my way back into crocheting again. I have boxes to mail and kids waiting for toys.

When the package arrived with my witch in it, I was so pleased. It was something I never could have made myself. As I have blogged about on numerous occasions, thread is beyond my talents. It kicked started me into continuing a project that I had put aside in frustration.

I have some Halloween projects to post this week and I hope to get back into regular blogging again as I work on fall and Christmas holiday projects.

This gift was a reminder that acts of kindness do matter. We can reach people at times we may not even know the person is in need of a kind act.

Fairy Godmother sends Doll Shoes

The Fairy Godmothers at Crochetville have been busy again. This time I got a 2 pairs of pretty doll shoes for my doll donation project. People can be so amazingly generous. I am very thankful and I am sure a little girl will be thrilled when she receives these extras in the gift box. Thank you Fairy Godmother, you gift was very thoughtful and kind.
