Mr. and Mrs. Claus Set Two

Yes, I made another Mr. and Mrs. Claus set. However, with multiple children to send toys to in the Christmas box, multiple sets are required. When possible, I like to find different patterns, as I am not a fan of repeating patterns too close together.

This is another pattern from Gourmet Crochet's Happy Holiday Amigurumi and the couple works up quickly for those who need a quick ami project. I ended up misreading the directions for Mrs. Claus the first time and ended up with a cute Christmas ornament that I did not photograph, because of the mistake. I love the details that are included for her, the hat, the apron, and her collar. It just adds some special touches to the toy.

These make great Christmas ami's or ornaments.

Light Bulb Ornament

I love ornaments. They are quick and fun to make. As a gift item, they advantage of coming out each year and helping to bring back memories. Since they are stored most of the year, it eliminates the issue of where to display the gift, too.

I happen to love the old-fashioned big bulbed lights that you do not see much anymore. Several crochet patterns out there bring back that look. This is a free ornament pattern found here. It is a great project to use up scrap yarn and to make some fun Christmas decorations.

Snowman Ornament

Since I started crocheting I have been trying to include crocheted ornaments in my kid packages. For the younger ones they have the advantage of being unbreakable. However, I also like the idea of sending something handmade to decorate the tree. If they last, each child will have some starter ornaments for a new tree of his/her own.

This snowman was made using a free pattern from Lily Sugar and Cream found here. I used worsted scraps left over from Humpty and the Penguin to make mine. I did not dig into my cotton collection and I think he came out quite well.

Tree Skirt is Finished

I used a free round ripple crochet tree skirt pattern found here on Crochetville to make my tree skirt. I have a beautiful cross-stitched one made by my sister, but I needed something I could trust with our newest Sheltie. Last year we used a sheet to protect the tree from a curious dog. This year I wanted a tree skirt that would be more dog friendly. She may be ready for the cross-stitch one to make a comeback at some point. For know we have something festive.

This pattern works up quickly. I used Caron One Pound yarn for my project. I am thinking about making a few of these for Christmas presents next year for a few people I know that do not have tree skirts.

Rocking Horse Ornament

I have been a huge fan of rocking horses and carousel horses for years. When I saw the pattern for a crocheted rocking horse Christmas ornament, it seemed like a great way to share my interest with the next generation. This is another pattern I found in the out of print Annie’s Attic Crochet Kid’s Christmas Tree.

I loved the little details on this pattern, down to the saddle and the bridle around the horse’s mouth. What I had trouble working through were the rockers. I had trouble getting the rockers to sit flat. I tried a few times with two different sized hooks. I will likely attempt another shot at this pattern, as I would love to have one for my own tree. At that point, I can hopefully work out my rocker issues. I may try a different type of yarn and see if that creates a better outcome. Perhaps a softer or lighter weight yarn might work better.
