Iggy the Penguin

Iggy has taken to hanging out in the window of the room my DH is using to work from home. He's trying to provide a little holiday cheer to the working day. Over the years I've made various holiday ami's for my husband to decorate his actual work cube but since he's working from home these days it seemed like a good time for a new companion. Since DH was kind enough to buy the Christmas Mini's patterns to help me complete my set of holiday patterns from this designer it seemed only fair he get his favorite pattern from the bunch. I was introduced to this designer through her Halloween patterns and I quickly picked up all her holiday patterns and preordered her Mini Kingdom: Crochet 36 Tiny Amigurumi Royals! and can't wait to begin making the patterns.

I had hoped to get more of these finished for my Christmas box but first I need to finish the presents that go with the books I'm sending. Then we will see what Christmas ami's I can send as well.

It was challenging getting a good picture of him with my phone. I loved the earmuffs and the beak was fun. I think next time I might use large plastic safety eyes. I am not sure I like the effect of the crocheted eyes as much as I thought I would.

This is the last of the projects from this year's Christmas box I need to post. Soon I can start posting the items I have completed for next year's box. This is another amigurumi completed using a pattern from Crochet Village's North Pole Resident's pattern set.

I currently have one ornmanet and three small ami's finished that I look forward to posting soon. I have a fourth one that just needs a head and details. These will all go in the attic ready for next year's mailing. This is the first year I have ever been ahead. It feels good.

Penguin Caddy

My swap partner received her package so I can start posting about the projects I made for the swap this week. The required item for this swap was one amigurumi. However, we like to add in extra items that the person might enjoy. I saw this caddy while searching through old Annie's Attic magazines looking for bird patterns. This pattern came from Annie's Pattern Club Magazine, issue #43 Feb-Mar 1987. I thought this would make a fun desk item to hold sticky notes and hooks or pencils.

While I have made lots of ami's I have never made a project that required a Styrofoam base and chenille stems. The stems were easy to find, but the bases available have changed just a bit since the pattern was published in the 80's. I found one that worked, with a little adaptation though.
