Bunny Puppets

This is the last of my 2022 Easter projects I'm preposting in June so I don't lose track of my projects.

I had never used Velvet yarn prior to this project. I understand the attraction to this yarn as it has the feel of a traditional stuffed animal. While I love amis the yarn versions are not nearly as snuggly as traditional stuffed animals. The Velvet yarn brings a softer feel to projects.

There is a trade off to working with the velvet yarn however in that it sheds and wears as you crochet with it. You don't tend to have this challenge working with traditional yarn. I found it was rather unforgiving when I had to pull out a section to redo something. I often found I could get one redo if I was lucky and that was it as the yarn was then to worn to use again. It had lost its plushy feel.

Baby Doll Easter Bunny

January definitely was the month for holiday baby doll clothing. I actually finished this outfit before the Leprechaun but seasonally it seemed better for it to go after the Leprechaun.

There was a time when the local craft stores used to sell craft bears that were a little over a foot long and people would buy them and dress them. I've run across various patterns in old crochet magazines I collect and I've put aside ones that I thought might at some point prove useful.

For the most part due to the size differences and shape of the bears most would have been better suited to the days when I dressed the 12" baby dolls. However, every so often you find something you can't resist trying to adapt.

I came across a pattern in my binder from the Mar/April 1993 issue of Hooked on Crochet titled Playing Dress Up. The pattern was designed for a 13" Teddy Bear like the ones I'd seen in craft stores years ago. Looking at it I could see the possibilities for adapting this to the larger 16" doll as there were no clothes to be fitted. The challenge would be to get the hat and shoes to fit. The bib was easy enough to make.

The original pattern called for an H hook I had to use a K to get the hat large enough to fit. I used an I for the pink trim or it was way to bulky. The ears were also done with an I hook or the chenille stems would have poked right through.

The feet proved to be more tricky. Bear feet are large so I needed to go down to a D hook to get them to fit and then play with the rows to get the fit I wanted. I used sport weight yarn for the paw pads or the pads wouldn't have fitted on to the smaller feet.

While I loved the overall look of the outfit I wasn't a fan of the carrot when I started crocheting it. I dug into my button collection for a carrot for the bib.

The Easter Bunny knows I love to crochet and once againg filled my basket with some items from my wish list of patterns.

For my doll donation project I got some new outfits to make for the 5" Itty Bitty Dolls, the 15" Baby Dolls, and the 18" Dolls.

I am fortunate to have such an Easter Bunny that is so supportive of all my crochet projects.

The Easter Bunny Brought Crochet Patterns

I love that the Easter Bunny knows I crochet. It’s wonderful he knows about online patterns and downloading them to leave in my Easter basket. He even seems to know which patterns are on my wish list.

This year the Easter Bunny brought the Animal Amigurumi to Crochet and he is such an amazing bunny that he even printed the corrections and slid them inside the book.

Like Santa the Easter Bunny knows I love to make the AG/18" doll clothes so he swung by Maggie's crochet and picked up some doll's clothes and some toy patterns for me. I got Betty the Barbeque Chef and Winter Fun for the 18" dolls. I love the make your own snowman. I have been eyeing that pattern for a while now. I wonder who told the bunny.

While at Maggie's the bunny picked up some toy patterns. I got the new Cinderella Flip Doll pattern. I also got two activity sets: Cooking Katie and Handy Andy.

I send a big thank you to the Easter Bunny. He is keeping me plenty busy with projects for relatives and my Christmas donations.

Who knew the Easter Bunny shopped at Etsy, but he left me some wonderful patterns to play with in the coming days.

Mysterious Cat's Airplane and Cat has been on my wish list for a while. Sadly, at one point when I could have bought it she had stopped selling it, only selling the finished items. When I saw it was back up for sale, this was the top item on the Easter Bunny's list. I have seen other animal and plane patterns, but this is the only one I have encountered where the child can remove the animal from the plane. I can easily adapt the cat to be whatever animal I want as long as the body size remains the same. If I can master this pattern, I want to put her Fox in the Race Car on my birthday list.

Another item that has been on my list for a long time is the Liberty Dragon of the Month-July from Hands of Hope. I had been looking for Dragon patterns when I stumbled across Hands of Hopes Dragon of the month and decided the July one had to make it here. It took me a while, but the Easter Bunny came through.

It is hard to find St. Patrick's day items to keep my holiday boxes new each year, but the Bunny located Liam the Leprechaun from Crochet Spot. This gives me two Leprechaun patterns I have not tried out yet to use for next year.

The last two patterns came as a set and will help me with another hard to find holiday, Thanksgiving. The Easter Bunny brought me the Thanksgiving Turkey pattern which provided me with an adorable Mr. and Mrs. Turkey to make for the holiday. Mrs. Turkey even has a delightful pumpkin pie.

I have some birthday gifts to finish up. However, I am excited about getting started on my Easter gifts. Hope all of you had a wonderful Easter holiday.
