Glitter Girl Sleeping Bag

I've made this a few times now and I'm seriously thinking about adapting the free pattern I use for the 18 inch dolls as it works up a bit quicker and I like the pillow rather than the mummy sleeping bag look. It is easier to make and it also is easier getting the doll into and out of for me. I will try to experiment earlier next year so I can decide if I need to come back to the pattern.

This is one of Adoring Doll's pattern sets that can be purchased here. It comes with several accessories and a few clothing items. I generally have been buying and sending the Glitter Girl campfire and portable grill set when I can find it on sale. Eventually it will be discontinued and these items may come back to my crochet list.

Glitter Girl Nightgown

I would like to start by thanking all those who offer free doll patterns for others to use. My donation has been greatly increased because I do have access to a huge library of free patterns. I like to challenge myself each year trying new patterns so I buy some and I try new free patterns. This is my fourteenth year doing this donation after years of making doll clothes for family so it is helpful to stay fresh by trying new things.

Those who provide free patterns provide them as they see fit. I find some formats easier to use than others. Normally I avoid You Tube patterns because I find a written pattern easier to follow. Again when it is free people provide it as they choose. So I continue to thank those who provide them in the format of their choice.

With that in mind I have to own my processing style. I will explain further.

First so there is no confusion most people are aware of the cheaper versions out there for the 18 inch American Girl Dolls. However, I do sometimes get questions about the Glitter Girl as the Wellie Wisher substitutes are not as well known.

A few years back I read about the Wellie Wisher and wondered if there was a more affordable alternative I could add to the donation as I'd been finding some really adorable crochet patterns for the doll. I came across the Glitter Girl dolls and its been a staple for the donation since. For those who buy the Glitter Girl doll I've found most of the Wellie Wisher crochet patterns do fit in the same way most of the American Girl dolls fit the My Life Dolls and the Our Generation Dolls I donate. I try everything on as I make it to make sure the outfit will fit.

I did search for a Wellie Wisher written pattern for a nightgown for this project. I was willing to buy one but I didn't find one out there. However what I did find was a You Tube video. With no other patterns that fit my search and loving the look of this one I decided to figure out how I could make this work for my processing style.

I can't follow directions while listening and watching a video. If you can that is wonderful. I have stayed away from video patterns for this reason.

I love youtube to see stitches and I also appreciate when a pattern includes a video that demonstrates some places where the designer has tried something new or does things differently from a traditional way I'd normally approach something.

You see these sometimes attached to blog pattern and those I love. However, when I sit down to create something I really like to be able to refer back to the directions in writing. I especially find in hard to wait for the rows that repeat with the same pattern until you get to the directions that change. It's hard to know where to skip to because you aren't sure what changes when. I learned this when I skipped a little ahead only to discover I'd missed an increase.

This technique may or may not work for you. I took the notes function on my phone and transcribed the pattern while I watched the video on my laptop. I then was able to send the notes to my laptop and with the picture I took of the finished item I now had a functional pattern for my use only. Since I constantly repeat patterns yearly for this project I had no desire to go back to the video again and this solved my problem. I am thrilled with the outfit.

If I find another you tube pattern that fills a void I can't get in written format I'd consider going this route again. However, it still is not my first choice for patterns.

Glitter Girl Emry Dress

As I was looking the link up for this pattern I just discovered it exists for the 18 inch doll so I have to check my pattern list because I'd like to have both. You can purchase the Wellie Wisher pattern that fits the Glitter Girl doll here.

I am going to try to make this pattern twice. I liked this pattern a little longer without the skirt but I'd also like to try it with the skirt in a different color to add to my donation supply for this doll.

Notes:

I used Knit Picks Pallete and an E hook for this dress.

To get the shirt dress look I added an additional 2 sets of the 2 row repeat pattern. This required 5 matching colored buttons and fudging a little as to where the button holes fit.

I marked all chains for this patterns as I found them harder to find when I went back to crochet into them the following row. I also did this with the button holes until I added the buttons as I wanted to make sure the button holes lined up. Once the button holes were attached they seem easier to find. However, prior to that I was losing them.

Glitter Girl Swimsuit

Another doll checked off my list of swimsuits for 2025. This is a Wellie Wisher pattern that fits the Glitter Girl and can be purchased here.

Notes:

I used an e hook and size 3 thread for this project. The main color is thread art and the contrast is Lizbeth. For my own notes I can find Lizbeth at Handy Hands these days.

I do a row of sc around the legs to finish them as they have a rather raw edge when completed as written.

For no particular reason I left the visor out of this year's donation. I believe it comes from late night crocheting.

Glitter Girl Drop Waist Dress

I keep trying to rotate through the dolls to make sure nobody leaves with a small donation wardrobe. This is one of Char Caywood's Wellie Wishers patterns that seem to fit the Glitter Girl dolls fairly well. You can purchase the pattern here.

Notes:

I originally discovered Lizbeth threads at Joann's but even back then the supply was limited. I discovered Handy Hands Tatting and this is really a note to myself to remember where to find it when I run out.

The variegated thread is size 3 Lizbeth Springtime. The blue size 3 from Threadart that I had left over from making Barbie's Prairie dress. The white is Aunt Lydia's Fashion 3.

I use a size e for the dress and underwear and I used a D for the shoes this time. I'm thinking a C would be worth a try as the shoes are still a little big.

The only minor changes I make to this pattern is I finish the back in variegated but follow the directions for using white at the top. I also finish the edges around the underwear. I just find its neater and less likely to snag.

The dress is closed with a snap at the back.

Glitter Girl Easter Morning Dress

It was time to add the Glitter Girl to my Easter challenge.

I've mentioned this before but like the My Life or Our Generation dolls most patterns I use for any of these dolls tend to be marketed under another doll's name or under a generic sizing. The Glitter Girl is close in size to the Wellie Wisher and this pattern is a Wellie Wisher pattern.

Notes:

The pattern for the dress comes from Little Bitty Boutique and can be purchased here. I've collected quite a few of her patterns for this size doll as they work up quickly and are not overally complicated while not looking too basic.

The shoes are my go to pattern for this doll and come from an Adoring Doll pattern that can be purchased here.

I used Herrschners Thistle Baby yarn which is a 3 weight and slightly heavier than the white Bernat Baby sport I used for the white. I like the Herrschners' yarn for these projects because the availabilty of colors is wider and when I can get a shipping deal the cost for the yarn is rather affordable. I haven't found anything else that works as well for these projects in the range of colors.

The pattern calls for Caron Simply Soft and I had some left over from a shawl project that I was trying to use up but I found the dress was too tight even when I went up a hook size so I switched back to the combo of Herrschners and Bernat.

I used the suggested f hook for the dress and H hook for the bow. I used an E hook for the shoes with the baby weight yarn.

I change row 9 for this pattern and do not overlap as it is too tight for this doll.

When I made this previously I needed to add rows this time it fit as written.

Glitter Girl Valentine Sweetheart Dress

When this posts Valentine's Day will have passed. However, when these dolls are distributed Valentine's Day will still be in the future so making holiday outfits passed this current holiday isn't an issue.

I'd forgotten I had Adoring Doll's Valentine pattern for the Glitter Girl Doll until I found it searching through my binder looking for something else. It was a welcome addition to my Valentine's project. You can purchase the pattern for the dress here. There is also the same pattern in the larger size for the 18 inch dolls available.

Notes:

Shoes:

The pattern calls for a 3.0 hook which I don't have. I used an E hook for this attempt in the future I'd use a D hook as they were slightly larger than I'd prefer.

Dress:

I don't have a note that I changed from an E hook that was suggested.

Row 10 it is very important to skip between the 3DC as the skirt becomes huge when you don't. The directions are there I just missed it and am likely to miss again. So it's on the pattern and here in my pattern notes.

I added two rows for length as the skirt was short when I finished the suggested rows prior to adding trim.

Waist trim:

I like the bow but for this size doll I think I'd skip the hearts or do them in size 10 thread next time. They are a bit large for this doll. It might work better on the larger doll. I think the bow alone would be fine.

Hair Tie: I went with the suggested chains I'd go longer to make it easier to tie next time.
