2014 Crochetville Games of Ancient Greece Winter Edition

This is my second time competing in the Crochetville Games. I competed in the previous summer games and it was a great opportunity to get focused and complete a donation project.

This year I thought I had my project all picked out, a doll jacket for the 18" doll. Just one problem, the pattern was from an out of print leaflet and the yarn no longer exists. This normally isn't an issue. I can usually find a substitute. However, for some reason the standard trade 4 weight yarn to 4 weight yarn wasn't working. I think I've solved the problem, but I'll need to order the yarn online to make the project. The odds of it arriving in time aren't great. So, I have decided to change my project.

I'm going to work on my Easter holiday outfit. I tried this outfit a few years ago and never completed it. A few weeks ago I decided this would be my Easter pattern and I bought new yarn to complete it. I tested the gauge last night and it will work. So the Easter outfit is going to be my challenge. If I can complete the coat that will just be an additional bonus.

Crochet Games of Ancient Greece Update

I'm continuing with my Olympic challenge to make play food for my Christmas toy donation. The food works up quickly and I may need a bigger box before I am finished with my donation.

The focus for yesterday was breakfast. I made a second pancake, two sausages, a whole egg, a cracked egg with an egg inside, and a fried egg. The pancake, sausage, egg, and fried egg came from an old Annie's Attic pattern, Crochet Toy Food, 87F12. The cracked egg with egg inside came from Tasty Crochet: A Pantry Full of Patterns for 33 Tasty Treats which is one of my favorite food books. They also have a great pancake pattern if you need one. While there are lots of free patterns out there, Tasty Crochet provides a nice collection all in one place to work from when you are trying to build a toy food pantry.

My favorite is the cracked egg. I made this for a family member before and it is a huge hit. Children like being able to crack the egg and have it "come out" either into a bowl to "mix" or on to a pan to "cook."

I have to look at my food crochet books to decide where to go next. I'll have a weekend update on the challenge next week.

I joined a Olympic themed crochet along at Crochetville. We set our own personal challenges and joined themed teams. I wanted to continue work on my donation projects but needed a break from dolls' clothes. I decided to work on play food for another Christmas donation I wanted to make. For these games I belong to team Big Hearts, the team focused on making items for charities.

We couldn't start the project until the games began. So far I've finished two hamburgers with trimmings, a pancake, and three slices of bacon. I am hoping to fill the bucket before the end of the games to get my "gold" medal. My real award is getting this stuff completed and ready to hand over now so I can focus my energies on other things in the fall.

The Hamburger pattern is one of my favorite food patterns and comes from Simply Amigurumi: 10 Crochet Projects the bacon and the pancake come from an old Annie's Attic pattern, Crochet Toy Food, 87F12. While the pancake pattern is pretty easy to find or make for yourself. I thought the curly bacon was interesting. I had not seen a bacon pattern I liked until I made this one.
