St. Patrick's Day Bookmark

I wish I had located this pattern before my St. Patrick's Day cards went out, but there is always next year. You can find the free pattern here.

This is not actually a bookmark pattern, but if you leave a long tail before you begin the starting chain you can extend the stem into a bookmark tail. My suggestion is to leave a much longer tail than you think you'll need. I found I needed to add thread as I ran out before I'd finished the length I wanted.

American Girl St. Patrick's Day

I love doing holiday outfits for my donation project. I've had this one on my list of projects to make for years and just never gotten there. This year seemed to be the year to attempt it.

This was a fun project and it again allowed me to use up some of the yarn I inherited from a friend who passed away. The pants have a very interesting construction method. I had to pull the hat out as I misread the directions and it wasn't forming at all as the picture showed.

One of the things I've been most excited about this year's projects is I'm taking the time to pull stuff out and redo them. Many times in the past I'd have abandoned a project and moved on to something I could finish faster and felt more productive. This time I slowed down a bit and figured it out. I'm still not a fan of the reverse SC.

Free Shamrock Crochet Dishcloth Pot Holder Pattern

This dishcloth was created from a free shamrock potholder pattern I found when I was updating my St. Patrick's Day patterns. I like this pattern better than the one I made from my potholder book. The shamrock is much more defined.

Lately I have been converting several potholder patterns to holiday dishcloths, as they tend to have the shapes and decorative aspects I have not seen in dishcloth patterns.

This one is already in service proving to be both decorative and useful. I have an Easter one in the works.

Shamrock Crochet Dishcloth

It is wonderful to see my own holiday creations hanging in my kitchen. This pattern comes from an out of print pattern from Leisure Arts, Holiday Pot Holders, 2560. I have found the pot holders often make great dishcloths. If you do not make the second half, you have your dishcloth. While there are many free patterns on the Internet, I find lots of out of print books that provide me with creative patterns.

My suggestion is to shop around, but do not wait too long if you have your heart set on a specific vintage book. As I have mentioned before prices can range widely. However, kitchen items are popular and they can disappear quickly. Check the prices and then buy if you want the pattern.

St. Patrick's Day Crochet Dishcloth

I hope everyone had a nice President's Day. Yesterday was a beautiful day off to spend with my husband. One of the wonderful things about working from home is deciding that I can take a day off. I had a long weekend and did not post ahead.

Last week I wrote about being glad Easter came late and this was one of the reasons. I visited my St. Patrick's Day page and downloaded some additional free patterns to make. This dishcloth was made from a free Granny Square pattern. Most of the times, I find a wonderful pattern like this I put the link on the appropriate blog page and print a copy for myself. However, the last year or so I have had problems periodically with my printer. Therefore, I add the link with the promise that I will go back to the page and download when the printer is back up again. I looked through my stored patterns and knew I had located more St. Patrick's Day patterns then were in my book. After realizing I had more time to play I went back to the page and found some wonderful goodies.

This pattern was the first I finished. I was thrilled I managed to complete the shamrock. The granny square has become a standard in my crocheting, but the shamrock was a challenge. For those who may want to make the pattern, the square ends with a traditional single crochet edge. I continued with a sc, chain 3, sc around ending with a slip stitch to complete. When I finished the dishcloth with just the single crochet it looked liked it needed something more.

Along with this pattern, I am almost finished with the free Hello Kitty pattern. I plan to start the free Barbie pattern I have listed on the St. Patrick's Day page.

My St. Patrick's Day Projects

The pictures of the current projects are at least on the camera and now merely need to be moved to the computer for uploading. Digital photography and I are at our infancy stages. At some point, I want the point and click camera. DH wanted the launch the space shuttle version so that is what we purchased. Therefore, I am continuing to use borrowed photographs.

I have fallen in love with Annie's Attic's Fun Time Bath Mitts. I believe it is currently on clearance the website. I made St. Patrick’s Day Bears for my niece and nephew that will be mailed today. I have an Easter Bunny and Easter Duck to send them next month along with other projects I will post about later. I love the fact the patterns are easy and fun to make and have a practical use when they are finished. I know the niece and nephew will love the puppets and Mom will love the fact that it encourages them to get clean in the tub. I am already considering how to incorporate the patterns into holiday themes. The patterns use the dishcloth yarn so I have been hitting the local craft sales at Michaels and AC Moore that have been competing to keep the price close to $1.25 a skein.

I also crocheted St. Patrick’s Day outfits for the nieces’ Barbie dolls. I have been hunting for vintage and current patterns that utilize sports yarn, as I am nowhere near able to crochet with thread at this point. I keep practicing, but my efforts have not achieved success at this point. I finished off the outfits with St. Patrick’s top hats found at Michaels.

For the baby in the crowd, I used a rattle pattern found in Amigurumi Two! My donut shape needs some work. I hope to improve my style as I found a free stackable pattern on Joann Fabrics I want to complete by Christmas. It looks like the plastic round ring stackable toy, but done in crochet. It is nice to have goals.
