After trying and failing to get the size right and passing the attempt on to the Lil Cutesies doll I tried again sticking strictly to Bernat Baby Sport yarn and I had success getting the outfit to fit. I did find myself alternating between a b and c hook to get the outfit to fit but I am pleased with the outcome.
