Glitter Girl Hannah Revised

Having made Adoring Doll's Hannah Carrot pattern for the Glitter Girl Doll, you can find the pattern here, I realized I could adapt the pants to a skirt and have another outfit for the donation.

Notes:

I promised myself I'd make a note of the starting chain when I played with this pattern with a g hook for the bottoms. I started with 30 chains and I followed the original pants plan until the pants split for the crotch. At this point I started adding increases with hdc 4 increase then hdc 5 increase. When I had the width I wanted for the skirt I made rows until I had the length I wanted for the skirt.

The shirt, hat, and boots are from the original pattern. I chose not to add the carrot as I wanted this to be a separate outfit. Hopefully these pieces will mix and match with other items I make as I proceed with the donation.

This was another great stash busting project. I'm enjoying finding ways to use up left over yarn balls and bobbins from previous projects.

Glitter Girl Spring Petal Dress

I've been keeping my eye out for more Wellie Wishers patterns as they seem the closest to fitting the Glitter Girl dolls. The Spring Petals Pattern can be purchased here.

This pattern calls for Knit Picks Fingering Yarn. I had some yellow Pallette on hand and it did make guage but it was tight under the arms and if I'd liked the color I might have played more with hook size to make it work but I really didn't like the color for the outfit. I've been complaining for years that I needed to finish off my Palette, as I'd stopped using it when I stopped making Barbie clothes for my nieces, I've since solved that problem. I recently reordered Pallette during one of their sales but I didn't want to wait to try this dress.

I went with Baby Bernat Sport Blue and it wasn't a bad choice. I liked the color. I can see where fingering would make for a lighter dress. When my shipment comes in from Knit Picks I'll likely make a second dress to send along for the donation and play with the gauge to see what works.

As for this dress I started with an e hook to get the arms to fit more comfortably. I like the outfits to be easy for little hands to take on and off. I found I needed to move to a D hook for the skirt as it quickly poofed out. This is where the fingering yarn likely would be a better option if I can play with the guage on the top to get it to fit better.

The patterns and textures on this dress are beautifully designed. I will be looking to find other patterns to try from this designer as I was pleased with my first pattern I purchased.

Glitter Girl Green Christmas

My computer was down for a bit and I got busy doing other things. However, I really do like having my blog to refer to regarding finished projects and ideas for future projects so it seemed like a good idea to get back to it once my computer was up and going again.

I'm sure many of us who do yarn crafts find we inherit yarn from others when they are looking to find homes for it. That was the case with this yarn. I thought it was similiar to Bernat's metallic yarn but it is a lighter weight yarn closer to a 3 than a 4.

I started out with the intent to make Darski's Green Christmas pattern found here for the My Life Doll and I even tried putting two strands together as I have a large bag of the yarn. However, the two strands didn't work and I wondered if I could make it work with a single strand for the Glitter Girl doll.

It took an I hook to get this to fit the Glitter Girl doll. I chose not to add the additional trims as I felt this would overwhelm the smaller doll.

Glitter Girls Doll Ruffled Top and Skirt

Last year I ordered Rag dolls from CR Crafts and Factory Direct because I wasn't sure which one I wanted. Having decided I prefer Factory Direct's model the next step was to decide if I was going to drop a doll for the donation or find a new type of doll to work with as I didn't intend to donate two of the same Rag doll.

I'd been interested in the Wellie Wishers dolls even before they stopped making them but they were never a realistic donation doll. I'd never quite found the subsitute in the size range I liked for a price that seemed sustainable for the donation. This year as I was looking at dolls I came acrross the Glitter Girls Dolls by Battat and decided I had to try them out for the donation this year.

I'd seen free crochet patterns for the Wellie Wishers on ABC Knitting and even adapted one for the Rag dolls last year for the donation. I was excited to see how they'd work with the Glitter Girl doll as everything I'd read online indicated they were a similiar size.

It is unusual for my guage to match the designers so I was pleasantly surprised to find the top fit the doll using Aunt Lydia Crochet Cotton Size 10 , White and the suggested 1.5mm crochet thread hook.

The skirt was a very different story. The pattern called for chaining 70 and I am seriously thinking of trying this pattern for the 18 inch doll as written because I think it would be an interesting skirt. The pattern does call for a tie to pull the skirt in at the end but with 70 chains I could have fit 2 dolls into the skirt. The bulge would have been huge when I pulled it in with the tie. I reduced it to 56 stitches and this made for a nicer waist fit but I didn't end up with the ruffled skirt. I was OK with that. If I make this again I can fix the skirt pattern if I want the ruffle. I rather liked the straight skirt look.
