Crafting is fun for all ages and interests. This blog evolved from researching resources for friends and articles I write as a freelance writer. It is a place to share the information I discovered. Please feel free to leave comments and questions. I am always looking at new projects ideas for family and friends in areas of my own abilities and theirs. 16 Inch Baby Doll Diaper Part 3
I've completed a set of two diapers for one of the JC 16 inch Baby Dolls for the donation so it is time complete a second set for the other doll.
As I mentioned in a previous post about the bibs it isn't that these projects are hard its just that there are many of them to complete. It is one of the reasons I try to knock them off as soon as the other donation is done. It keeps me from putting them off and then realizing at the end I have all these little projects that need completing and I need to struggle at the end to finish them off.
With this one down only one more needed and the diapers will be done for 2024!!!
This is an old pattern but it is so easy. I use snaps rather than the buttons. I just happen to find them easier to get on and off but if buttons are your thing by all means.
This free pattern is available here.
While these aren't as realistic as the plastic disposable ones that often are sold in stores they are more cost effective and practical as they can be reused until they are lost. Cloth might work better but I'm not much of a sewer so my donation dolls will continue to leave with crocheted diapers. Each doll leaves with two diapers so the doll can wear one and the child can "change" the doll into a new diaper and keep rotating as interested.

16 Inch Baby Doll Diaper
I try to get the accessory projects started and finished early in the year as they are quick projects to squeeze into busy end of year and start of year schedules and they often get forgotten if I don't target them early on in the process.
While last year I reduced my hook size to an I this year I went back up to a K hook as the diaper was too small with an I. Gauge is always a challenge so I try to document what worked when. I used Red Heart Super Saver for this project. I think last year it was Caron Pounder but I haven't found the weights to be that different to require that different a hook change. It is likely me.
This is a free pattern I've been using for years for the JC 16 Inch Baby dolls you can find it here. I've never found a diaper pattern I love for the Lots to Love 14 Inch Baby Doll although it does come with one cloth diaper. This year I picked up the Melissa and Doug Diaper Bag Set to send with the smaller 14 inch doll and I'm hopeful the diaper will fit the doll along with providing the other diaper bag essentials I make for the larger baby dolls.

16 Inch Doll Diaper Round 3
Well three diapers down and one more to go so each JC Toys -16-inch Baby Doll will leave with a diaper to wear and one to change. Why document each one. Well sometimes I don't. Last year I did them in batches but this year, I'm trying to look at how and when I got stuff done to give me an idea when I look at this next year what worked and what I'll do differently the next time.
For this year I've accepted using an I hook for the free pattern you can find here. For this 3rd diaper I added a decrease row at the crotch for an overall extra row. Not exciting stuff to read but it does improve the item over time. Especially when I read the notes I write here and record them on the pattern as well.
I'm hoping to finish of the diaper bag items early this year and have the chance to try patterns I've not tried for the donation and gifts this year.

16 Inch Doll Diaper
They are not the most exciting projects in the world but I do try to get an early start on them every year because I try to send 2 with each of the larger baby dolls so they can be "changed." The crocheted diapers may not be as realistic as traditional cloth diapers but they are more practical than the disposable doll diapers that one has to keep buying as it can be hard to reuse them. These are pretty sturdy and they give allow for pretend play.
I need 4 diapers to send off with the JC Toys - La Baby16-inch Baby Doll diaper bags this year. I'll need 2 for the 14 inch dolls as well.
I've been using this pattern forever because its free and easy. I have to keep checking because its only available through the Wayback machine but thankfully as of writing this post it was still there to share with you. You can find the free diaper pattern here.
I used a K hook for these but I made a note last year which I missed to try a smaller hook perhaps an I to see how they fit. If they are too small they will likely fit the JC Toys - Lots to Love 14" Baby Doll.
The diapers are going to be another left over yarn ball stash busting project as I have a giant ball of white to finish off.
