Crafting is fun for all ages and interests. This blog evolved from researching resources for friends and articles I write as a freelance writer. It is a place to share the information I discovered. Please feel free to leave comments and questions. I am always looking at new projects ideas for family and friends in areas of my own abilities and theirs. Jack O Lantern Dishcloth
As I mentioned previously I'm on a quest to update my holiday dishcloths as I finish off this year's doll donation. Since two major holidays arrive before the doll donation ends I can't really wait if I want to use them this year.
While I love a holiday theme to brighten up my kitchen my dishcloths and potholders do get used so I try to find something that will do the job and provide some holiday color. I do have some potholders with some sewn on appliques as stuff just sits on them. However, where possible I try to have the details of my dishcloths be part of the pattern as they are less likely to come off over time.
I've seen some Jack-O-Lanterns with the details sewn on the dishcloth and I have a potholder made that way but until I came back to this one I'd avoided the idea for a dishcloth because I knew it wouldn't last in my house.
This pattern is from an out of print Leisure Art Leaflet 75558 A Dischcloth a Month.
I used the suggested H hook for this pattern with the same colors I used for the pumpkin dishcloth I made previously with the addition of black for the mouth and eyes.
There are a couple of other fall dishcloths I'd like to add to the collection but it will depend on where I have time to squeeze them in between other doll stuff.

Pumpkin Dishcloth
I purchased this pattern during an incredible sale on Etsy and you can purchase the pattern here. There are plenty of free pumpkin patterns out there but this one had texture and it is double sided which attracted me to buying a single pattern.
I knew it was going to be slightly smaller than most of my dishcloths but since it was a double sided technique I hadn't tried before I was hesitant to add widening rows the first time through. Having made one I'd condider making it a bit wider and longer before working the back side.
This was made with I believe Lily Sugar and Creme orange and Peaches and Creme Rosemary Cotton kitchen type yarn. I needed an H hook for the job. The pattern was easy to follow and as I mentioned I made no changes.

Halloween Dishcloths
I love experimenting with dishcloths. They can add some color during the holidays and they help me get refocused when I hit a crochet block. For instance one of these patterns was a trial run for a baby bib.

Pumpkin Dishcloth
I bought an out of print book of potholders a while back. I had made dishcloths, but had little experience with pot holders. This leaflet was Leisure Arts Holiday Pot Holders, 2560. Whether I am making dolls clothes or other new patterns I find I experiment with making part of the pattern, then go back, and make the whole pattern later. That was the birth of this dishcloth. The pot holder will require two of these pumpkins crocheted together. However, after I was done, DH claimed the dishcloth for our holiday collection and the pumpkin dishcloth was born. I do intend to go back and actually make the complete pot holder before Halloween comes. However, it could be a project for next year as more projects seem to be crossing into the Halloween, Thanksgiving, Christmas time period.

Ghost Dishcloth
I bought a pattern book called Seasonal Cotton Dishcloths from Crochet Village and made the bunny for Easter. These are quick to make and are fun to use at home or give as gifts. I had a very long college graduation to attend and brought my crochet bag with the small pattern book and a supply of white cotton yarn into the ceremony. People gave me some strange looks until the ceremony dragged on and on and then many of them looked like they wished I had some supplies to share. I had the ghost almost completed by the time the final speaker was finished and I put my crochet away to watch the main event. Never underestimate the value of uninterrupted crochet time.
I am really looking forward to making the rest of the set and then trying for multiple colors in the set as the pattern shows. I can think of a few people who will be receiving these as gifts when I finish my home supply.
